He has been involved in a series of expenses controversies himself and has claimed almost £45,000 of expenses on his constituency home in the last four years - despite enjoying a lavish grace-and-favour apartment.

Oh isnt that a suprise

Another episode of cronyism.

In any other walk of life, he would be gone already

I do feel that His Lovliness should just sack him and be done with it. What's the point of hanging on other than for him to line his pocket and get his son into a safe seat?

Hereditary seat? You can probably guess he average Glaswegians reaction to that one. The days when a monkey in a red suit would get elected are long gone-along with the red suits.

If I said I was going to Westminister on Bank Holiday Monday to protest, how many of you would agree to meet me there at 12 noon?

I mean it. I'm not joking. If one other person says it and means it I'll go. Do you mean it Oscar? Can you do it with your other commitments?

As it's a bank holiday, I will check with Mr O's pal as i often look after the take-away on bank hols but as far as i know, I'm not doing it. I'll check with him in the morning and let you know straight away. If i'm clear, i will do it and we can make plans to meet. I can get a coach from Bristol to London. :)

The labour mafiosa will hang on till the bitter end. Gordon Brown is going to try and stay in power as well. You really don't believe either have the moral integrity to do the right thing do you? Michael martin probably does believe he is entitled to get what's due him. Labour councillors are just the same and so it looks like are the SNP ones. Bunch of crooks the lot of them.

You'll know it's me as I'll have a copy of the Daily Mail under my arm.

Bummer. Seems we'll be arrested if we stand on the green opposite Westminster and protest (under anti-terrorist legislation). We must be at least a mile away and have informed the Met Police.

Trafalgar Square.

I'm still for it and will call the Met if it's on. Good on you Oscar - you still up for it? At Trafalgar Square?

Anyone else? Come on guys - we need to be political for the sake of the country. It's not a big thing to do. What were you planning for Bank Holiday Monday as important as the issue of who governs us? I'll bring paper and pencil for a petition.

I'm working on the chant - can anyone help? "Thieves in Parliament are still thieves" is waaay too clunky. Can anyone help? (Feel free to exercise your humour :wah:)

Hey ho. Don't seem able to rouse much enthusism round here, and a two-person protest seems a bit pointless. Sorry Oscar - it's off:(

(If Martin hadn't resigned there would have been a good reason, but he has, so....)

So you are one of those upper middle class labour supporters then.

I agree with tony benn on this one. Labour went wrong ending the grammar schools-nothing wrong with giving those with the ability access to the best education-what they should have done was end the fee paying schools so that you had equality of access based on ability not access based on ability to pay. They should also end separate religious schools.

Even back then, there was an air of money bought a better education but i do actually agree with you. Schools should be about ability and not the ability to pay. Tony Benn is still a knob.
