Putin berates US Dell

Post by mikeinie »

Putin puts the boot in to US and Dell chief at Davos - The Irish Times - Fri, Jan 30, 2009

Delegates were still talking yesterday about the performance of Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin in a keynote address on Wednesday night. Putin, who is travelling with a large security entourage in 20 SUVs, took the opportunity to thumb his nose at the US, which he blamed for the global financial meltdown.

He berated US delegates who spoke last year about the US economy’s “fundamental stability and its cloudless prospects and seemed to enjoy declaring that “investment banks, the pride of Wall Street, have virtually ceased to exist. In a fascinating exchange, Putin was praised in a follow-up discussion by Dell computer founder Michael Dell, who enthused about Russia’s scientific and technical proficiency and asked: “How can we help? Putin replied: “We don’t need help. We are not invalids. We don’t have limited mental capacity.

Prime Minister Putin was conciliatory towards the West in a speech devoid of specific commitments on anything of substance. There was an audible "phew" from the global uber-elite.

This was Robert Peston of the BBC's comment on the speech. Interesting difference of interpretation. Are we referring to the same speech?

Sorry, being a bit slow today. Putin was statesman-like in the big keynote address, doing nothing to rock the boat further, but couldn't resist a chance to twist the knife in a smaller follow-up meeting?

Given the lecturing the West has given Russia on economic matters in the last 20 years, I'm not surprised.

It's not going well for America is it/

I read last night that Iran is pretty pissed off with Obama and has basically told him to get stuffed until he denounces Israel. It's one to watch folks :thinking:

They are testing him. They need to see how far he will go in both directions. There is alot of testing going on both here, in the US, and abroad.

Well, britain's not testing him. Infact we are quite delighted to hear that he's not coming here but sending Hilary instead. The British government is reported to be quite concerned and has had talks with the foriegn office. :o:o:o
