Black Halloween Sky
by E T Waldron
The sky looked like black marshmallow
it was made for an eve they call all hallow
still 2 weeks to go, nary a pumpkin in sight
yet it sure looked like a halloween night
She was glad to be almost home from her walk
So dark and eerie she could hear the wind talk
There seemed to be a strangeness in the air
She wished she had taken her dog with her
Suddenly something flashed by her sight
It was a black cat, gave her such a fright
it stopped right in front of her meowing
Then changed into a white spectre howling
She was ready to scream, and again it changed
A viking man, now surely she was deranged
felt herself fainting he reached out to her
it wasn't a man but a cat of motlled fur
She ran fast to get home out of this nightmare
Reaching there crying in a state of despair
When she entered the house all was normal
She could not account for all of the turmoil
Had a cup of hot chocolate and sat by the fire
didn't call anyone, thought it best to retire
After a soothing bath she went to bed
couldn't sleep, everything running in her head
Next morning it was still with her, as she arose
The sun was shining and all seemed composed
But lying at foot of bed, a cat with mottled fur
Same as the viking that shape-shifted, before her.
