We already established that i am a Labour loving, Gordon Brown swooning, Daily Mail reader so i must be a loonatic as well.
What i don't like about Obama is that in all the speeches i have seen him make, he trie's to please all of the people, all of the time. In the real world, you just can't do that.
Is he going to try to 'please' Iran, Iraq or Al-Quaeda when they put the pressure on him because a wet lettuce has more backbone???

why: Because the other party has screwed things up for all of us.

I agree but that should exclude the likes of China, Korea, Iraq, Iran, Syeria etc etc who would vote for their own personal gain and not the benifit of the world.
I heard some blah blah blah on BBC news last night that America is still considered to be the super-power of the western world so we should all get a vote.

Yes i do.
Although i see McCain as the next president, i have to say that all this 'socar mom' crap is getting on my nerves.
I just don't hear Hilary or Biden coming out with such nonsense.
We had a report in our press today that palin had $100,000 worth of new clothes bought for her by McCain as well.

In that case then Europe and US are not than unalike, so yes, we should be able to vote in each other's elections.
Heck, why don't we all just join up and become the:
United Countries of the Western Hemisphere.
We can have our central government¦¦¦.. on.. The Isle of Man.. what a great name of a place to hold a central government.
Only for politically correct purposes we would need to change the name to the Isle of Person.
Then we can all combine our massive debts together and and and make Ryanair our national airline..

What is it with you Irish guys and the Isle of Man??
In another thread, galbally challenged me to a fight on the Isle of Man at 4 pm but then he is a peat bog Leprechaun and i'd expect nothing else.
last time i looked, the Isle of man was already an Independant state who wanted nothing more to do with those nasty British and Irish celtic people.
We could just invade the Isle of Man, and export all their manx cat's to make money. (I've had a long day as well.) If we invade, we could use it as Central government for the United Western Allience.
We could all then invade every country in the east and peace would re-sume.

Best thing that could happen for al quada is for McCain to win.

Al-Quaeda have allegedlly already stated on Al jazzwhotsit that they are urge America to back McCain. There again, they are sucide merchants.
If pakistan did not have hard line links to Al-Quaeda, there would be no attack.
You can not suggest that America or the UK would attack a country for absolutely nothing??? It just doesn't happen :sneaky:
Al-Quaeda is not a country nor army that is solely open to attack. It is many cells of many fractions of religeous fanactics who believe they have been done an injustice by the West.

Alaska takes money from the oil companies and issues checks to all of it's citizens... what do you call that?
And before anyone says 'but' like I did... apparently Palin has actually gotten the taxes increased on those companies..
I just can't for the life of me understand McCains choice of Palin over just about any other female in the Republican party. I mean seriously... Rice? Dole? Fiorina?
Perhaps everyone else passed..

There's an effect which nobody's discussed so far. In some US Presidential Elections, before this manic partisan effect became so overwhelming, people on the day quite often voted for the candidate they thought would win, wanting the feel-good of their preferred candidate coming top. Then came this fundamentalist spirit in which the other side were hell-bound apologists for Satan and nothing short of dismemberment would get them to vote for the Party Of Error, whichever that was.
If this year a few - maybe one in ten - go back to wanting the feel-good on the day from voting for the winner, this might be the first election in American history where one candidate captures the entire Electoral College and brings the country together. Let's face it, it's certainly not going to be Senator McCain with that dreadful paper cut-out from Anchorage.

Isn't that called "spreading the wealth"? Uggh, McCain now has that moron Joe the Plumber with him on the campaign trail. I'm married to a licensed plumber. It's just insulting to us.

I have to believe that she is much better then she is coming off here, spot. Think about it... she's managed to get elected governer. I really have to consider that this may be an effect of not running her own campaign, but rather having to carry the party line.
It will be interesting to see her mature in the process, if they don't win this time. If she is out there campaigning for herself next go round, I think we'll get a much better feel for her.
I can't imagine having someone call me to be vice president and anyone expecting me to do anything but try to avoid tripping myself up.. and while she has state political experience... she needed grooming IMO. If she has 4 years of grooming... watchout!

Well after the Assassination attempt was foiled against Obama. I feel if Obama is elected. Every Skin head and other Freaks. Will be coming out of the woodwork. Pot shots at Obama will not STOP. If one of these extremist succeeds. there will be hell on earth. with riots , drive by shootings, and bombings. Whites on blacks. and blacks on whites. This will be a lot worse then 911. Because the terrorist. will be within our boarders.

That's extraordinary. Nobody made much fuss at all when Ronald Reagan was clipped.

That's an extreme assumption. A hundred million fundamentalist Christians think the man's Satan's personal envoy on Earth and it has to be a race thing that gets him shot at?

He's not a fundamentalist Christian. Everyone who's not a fundamentalist Christian is going to hell, ask one and they'll confirm it for me. What did I get wrong? That people going to hell are Satan's personal envoys on Earth? That there's a hundred million fundamentalist Christians in the USA? I stand by every word of it.

They are a hate group. not just blacks either,Jewish, catholics, and so on. But these groups split er off. Into many other groups. but any killing will be tied with them. one way or another.

You know, I think everyone is just getting a bit too worked up about this election, hey guys, its just a bit of fun, its not like the outcome is important is it? :wah:
Seriously though, there are a lot of positives to come out of this process, there is a serious debate in America about its direction at the moment, the most serious political debate probably since the 1960s, sometimes thats been ugly but thats the nature of American democracy, you get to see it happening in the open.
I think Obama is going to win this, and probably the democrats are going to sweep the board, it seems to me that many Americans are hungry for a new direction, and for their nation to adopt a new stance in the world. Of course many others are fearful of what change means, thats a fairly typical response in any country.
I think the Republicans are going to embark on political civil war once this is over, as the right wing religious base (that party has really moved to the right in recent years) trys to take complete control from the more moderate fiscally conservative, realist, and libertarian side of the party (which would be the one I would admire).
You can see it in the current Republican ticket, John McCain is a traditional conservative with a somewhat reformist nature, his running mate however, is a radical particularly on issues of social policy, she seems to appeal very much to a certain mentality on the American right, but its the one thats obsessed with cultural questions such as guns, abortion, and race rather than the wider issues of governance of the United States.
Thats the fault line in American politics at the moment thats interesting. Its my guess that if the Republicans don't pull back from this lurch to the radical right they will spend many years in the wilderness. However, if the Republicans can jettison some of the more scary fundamentalist types and get back to being a truly conservative party of reasonably small (but effective) government (that governs for all Americans not just right-wing white people), realistic foreign policies, and minimum interference in people's lives and beliefs they may have a chance come next time.
