Not a lot of white people would join an all black forum.. or go in an all black neighborhood. you just don't do things like that. Most of the time your not wanted by some of the people and things could happen. Cracker and Honky are names for white people like the N word is a name some whites use for them. It's meant to be an insult.

Frankly, I've the heard Honky a gazillion times but then when my daughter went to high school some chick called her a cracker. I had no idea what it meant either till somebody told me.

"Cracker", sometimes "white cracker", is a pejorative term for a white person, mainly used in the Southern United States, but in recent decades it has entered common usage throughout North America. It also refers to law enforcement officials of any race, as it is adopted from the slavery days of those who would "crack the whip."

Etymology

There are various theories concerning the origin of the term "cracker".

The term "cracker" was in use during Elizabethan times to describe braggarts. The original root of this is the Middle English word crack meaning "entertaining conversation" (One may be said to "crack" a joke); this term and the alternate spelling "craic" are still in use in Ireland and Scotland. It is documented in Shakespeare's King John (1595): "What cracker is this same that deafs our ears with this abundance of superfluous breath?"

By the 1760s, this term was in use by the English in the British North American colonies to refer to Scots-Irish settlers in the south. A letter to the Earl of Dartmouth reads: "I should explain to your Lordship what is meant by Crackers; a name they have got from being great boasters; they are a lawless set of rascalls on the frontiers of Virginia, Maryland, the Carolinas, and Georgia, who often change their places of abode". A similar usage was that of Charles Darwin in The Origin of Species, to refer to "Virginia squatters" (illegal settlers) (p. 35).

Spaniards in Florida called them “QuÃ¡queros, a corruption of the English word “Quaker, which the Spanish used to contemptuously refer to any Protestant.

Other possible origins of the term "cracker" are linked to early Florida cattle herders (Florida crackers) that traditionally used whips to herd wild Spanish cattle. These cowboys were distinct from the Spanish vaqueros of Florida. The crack of the herders' whips could be heard for great distances when they were used to round cattle in pens and to keep the cows on a given track. Also, "cracker" has historically been used to refer to those engaged in the low paying job of cracking pecans and other nuts in Georgia and throughout the southeast U.S.

Historically the word suggested poor, white rural Americans with little formal education. Historians point out the term originally referred to the strong Scots-Irish of the back country (as opposed to the English of the seacoast). Thus a sociologist reported in 1926: "As the plantations expanded these freed men (formerly bond servants) were pushed further and further back upon the more and more sterile soil. They became 'pinelanders', 'corn-crackers', or 'crackers'." [Kephard Highlanders]

Honky, Honkey or Honkie is a predominantly American pejorative racial slur for white people.

Honky is a corruption of hungy or hunky, a term which originated in the stockyards and slaughterhouses of Chicago. The term may derive from "Bohunk" (Bohemian-Hungarian), which was used to refer to central Europeans. Black workers and Hungarian workers were two of the largest ethnic groups in the Chicago meat industry. Racial and ethnic tension between the two groups led Black workers to begin calling Hungarian workers, and those perceived as Hungarian workers, hunky, perhaps in retaliation for the familiar racist epithets to which black workers were subject. The corruption 'honky' emerged shortly thereafter.

Honkey was later adopted as a pejorative in 1967 by black militants within SNCC seeking a rebuttal for the term nigger. National Chairman of the SNCC H. Rap Brown, on June 24, 1967, told an audience of blacks in Cambridge, "You should burn that school down and then go take over the honkey's school." Brown went on to say: "If America don't come `round, we got to burn it down. You better get some guns, brother. The only thing the honkey respects is a gun. You give me a gun and tell me to shoot my enemy, I might shoot Ladybird.

In Australasia and Singapore, a person of Hong Kong origin is categorised as a Hongky or "Hongkie", a term that some people of Hong Kong take offense at. They prefer to be called Hongkongers (or Hongkongese). In fact several brochures from the Hong Kong Tourism Board make reference to this new term.

On the TV show The Jeffersons, George Jefferson regularly referred to white people as honkys. This usage (while negatively affecting the later syndication of the show to some degree) added a familiar, less offensive tone to the word, which caused some acceptance of the term when used in the appropriate company, much in the same way earlier television shows had disseminated racial slurs about blacks.

The word honky may also refer to a particular type of country music, called honky-tonk.

Geeze Mags....there's still a lot of racist people in the States...no matter what color or nationality you are. But, I do think that most nationalities get along for the most part.

During my high school and college years, I lived in an inner city. So, I went to school with the United Nations. There was tension amongst some...usually the angry people, but we all got along and never really thought of our differences.

Think that you just happened upon some angry people. Maybe they throught you were a troll because you said that honky was a cute word. That's a red flag because we would never say it was cute knowing it was a derogatory word. You didn't know that, and they didn't give you a chance to explain your thoughts.

I'd stay away from there I think

i agree. I am friends with all diff types of people.. i am Mexican, Italian and American. -more Italian than anything else I've never had anyone be ignorant to me in a racist way. I just don't get all the hatred. But it's a part of life..

We all loved that show years ago and never took it as being racial against blacks or any race who would be offended, was just silly name calling from both sides, very tongue in cheek. We had golliwog dollies as children, I adored mine, told my mum that when I was a mummy I wanted a brown baby and I was calling her Kizzy after the gypsy girl in the film of the same name. :-4

Neither do I and I think probs cause I'm just nice to everyone. I've never been called any of the racist names.

I tell people I am a German American instead of white.

Also, when I was younger I went to a predominatley (sp) black elementary school and the kids used to call me a "biscuit" or "white biscuit".
