Finally went to the GYM!

Post by cars »

I've been a member of our local GYM for several months now. Well I finally actually went to use the workout equipment there last Friday, and again today! :) I did survive, as I had the GYM's trainer show me how to properly use the many pieces of equipment.

I now plan on going Monday's, Wednesday's & Friday's as the trainer advised. Would you believe after only going those two days, I noticed some muscle toning already! After a couple of months or so, look out Hulk Hogan! :D

SO ANYBODY ELSE LIKE WORKING OUT IN THE GYM?

I love going to the gym, Cars, and go most days. My Canberra gym is ladies only - and we have a ball. Sometimes I use the machines. The treadmill is great as it comes with cable television and I can plug in my own headphones and watch the French news, or Oprah, or a movie. Mostly though, I love the classes - these start at 6am each morning, and we have combat (kickboxing etc), yoga-pilates-stretch, weights and dance. You can shower and have brekkie there and still get to work on time. In Sydney I walk to the North Sydney pool for aquarobics where there's a very fine bunch of people. There is also a full gym and classes too. From the pool one can watch ferries going by, or the trains going over the harbour bridge. Cool.

It's good you're doing this!!! Even when life is really busy - maybe specially then - it's a great idea to set aside some time for exercise. You feel better, look better, and probably get to stick around longer!!!

Is that what happens when a man works out? His thighs become way too big?

I find gym work so boring that I cannot motivate myself to keep at it.

Running doesn't agree with me.

So from zero fitness level I've taken to cycling to try to get moving again - I'm up to an hour to an hour thirty each day I'm at home and feeling much better for it.

I don't like it, except on days it is inclement weather and I can't walk outside. But it is the only time I get to hear the news (while on the bike) and watch a video and pretend to be in good shape. :D

I'm not keen on it, but I still make myself go. Honestly, I swear gym instructors were torture assistants in previous lives!

I can live with half an hour on the treadmill and a bit on the stepper to stop me turning into a total hippo, so it's not so bad.

Cars

I wanted a expensive Juicer - you know to get healthy, motivated...

Received Juicer for C'mas '07 - finally used it yesterday..

FEEL MUCH BETTER NOW .

As far as Gym's , exercise rooms of any kind, and I have several available to me-

I have a difficult time to commit to a regular schedule.

you know - Bowling League every Wed. night for 4 months. I tried

I'll be motivated, when I can enjoy the outdoors

it's 110 and 80% humidity today..:-1

Good Luck

Yeah!! I drive by several on my way to work and home, that is a close as I get to one. :D In San Diego we don't need to go to no stinking GYM we workout outside in the fresh air walk, jog, bike, yoga all outside. :wah: ;)

Yes, the gym is good for getting muscle tone. However, while I was walking on the tread mill for a half hour, I said to myself, self, this is crazy walking "indoors"! If I'm gonna walk, why not walk "outdoors" in the fresh air? So I use the gym's equipment for getting muscle tone, & now walk "outdoors"! :-6

I rode my bike the 2 miles to the gym saturday worked out then rode it home.. by sunday afternoon certain body parts felt like those of a mildly abused virgins and the up and down work in my garden was mostly down..:D
I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

Folks who'd like to copy my intellectual work should expect to pay me for it.:-6

Now I'm going to be wandering about wondering what a mildly abused virgin is and whether I can perhaps recapture that feeling by attending my local gym...

GUFFAW...

Well done, I was due to start going to the gym in November last year, but I broke a bone in my left foot at the end of October, so obviously couldn't start. I finally got the all clear to go about 3 weeks ago, and have been going 3 times a week, and am really enjoying it. I think it has helped heal my foot as well, getting all the muscles etc working again, after being in plaster for 11 weeks they were all a lot weaker, and I was finally discharged from the fracture clinic yesterday, so full speed ahead at the gym now.

I am looking forward to the new slimmer, leaner me in the not too distant future. Enjoy your trips to the gym:-6

Yes you're right maggie, several of the guys at the gym have told me that they are recouperating from leg, or hip, or arm surgeries. And that they have been using the gym's muscle toning equipment for 4 to 5 months and have seen marked improvement in the motion of those limbs. So good going at the gym, and happy toning!:)

I love going to the gym... I've got into a really good set routine of going straight to the gym after work. I have been doing a lot of running on the treadmil and am up to a comfortable distance of 5 miles!! I would like to start running outside more often though...

I don't run these days as the impact is too great on one knee I mashed on the ice rink - but I love to get outside and go cross country. Fast clambering. Even when happily plugged into TV or music on a treadmill, it does lack the outside world challenges - fresh air, changing terrain and the need to involve the mind in dealing with obstacles like dog poo, vehicles, potential muggers (in urban settings), wombat holes, barbed wire fences, or streams (in the bush).

We get pot holes in this country. It is the law under the British government that you must be shredded by potholes every day or you forfit your license to move in a diagonal fashion.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. R.L. Binyon
