Toddler Dies After Fugitive Dad Gets In Head-On Crash

Father, Another Driver In Serious Condition

POSTED: 11:40 am EST March 3, 2005

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 17-month-old boy has died of injuries resulting from a crash where his father struck an SUV as he was speeding the wrong way down an entrance ramp Wednesday as he tried to get away from police.

Police said that Jacob Joiner was not in a child safety seat when the his father, Gerald Joiner, 30, was trying to escape capture on an outstanding warrant for fraud.

The elder Joiner and driver of the SUV, Linda Glisson, 56, are both in critical condition at Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center Thursday.

According to authorities, an undercover officer recognized Joiner as a suspect and approached his Ford Mustang on 103rd Street about 11:30 a.m. Joiner sped off and ended up running head on into an SUV driven by Linda Glisson, 56, on a ramp that connects Blanding Boulevard to Roosevelt Boulevard.

Gerald Joiner

The detective had broadcast a description of Joiner's car, which had a sign in the back which read, "Catch Me If you Can." A police sergeant came upon the crash moments after it happened.

"Under no circumstances was there any type of law enforcement pursuit of this vehicle," Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesman Rick Wood said.

The warrant for Joiner was a result of consumer complaints about a real estate listing service, which contained bogus and stale listings, authorities said. His wife was also wanted on fraud charges.

A corrections officer is posted at Joiner's hospital bed and he will be transferred to jail when his health improves. Police said he will likely face charges of reckless driving and manslaughter.

What about the charges of child endangerment, fleeing from the cops, being too stupid to live...etc...??? :-5

Was it specifically aimed at polie or is it one of those generic bumper stickers that makes the racers heart rev up.

the "mother" is a POS jailbird too. i cannot tell you how many so-called parents i have served with papers to take away their defenseless babies. DCF (dept. of children and families) is overwhelmed and can't keep up, but they get blamed for the tragedies. i am front line and find crack-addicted babies in vehicles wearing two-day old diapers and starving while mommy gives someone a $2.oo BJ for a crack rock.

What a POS, just so sad that the baby died. :-5 As sad as it is, this baby may be better off. Parents today who engage in Drug, crime, Yada Yada.. don't have a chance under the care of their parents.. :lips:

WHAT CAN BE DONE TO STOP THIS CYCLE.. JUST GOING NO WHERE EACH YEAR IT JUST GETS WORSE..
ALOHA!!

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.

WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

My first thought was I hope he survives so he will have to live the rest of his life knowing what he's done. Yet I wonder, do people like this even have a conscience?

When the cartels came into Toronto we met them on the streets and took them out. Men with guns are real wussies when there are no guns and they start feeling the pressure of knuckles on bones.

One of the things that we found out right away was how they distributed the blow.

They would come into the city and go to the low income areas. They would associate with the Portuguese who would be made the middlemen that would then sell to the lower salespower of the street pushers who were the blacks. Worked real well for them but worked even better for us when we knew who we were going after.

It's heartbreaking to see what it does to people that want and need it. Run into people that are thanking us today for the stand we took. One guy is 12 years clean from everrything.

Funny how depraved desperation will make you while you are in the state of dependence. Not funny ha-ha funny but funny strange.
