Do You Answer The Phone?

Post by Lon »

It does not bother me one bit to not answer the phone and let the answering machine do it's job. My wife on the other hand can't stand to not answer the phone. I will answer the phone when it is convenient for me to do so and I am not other wise occupied with something else like reading, watching TV, making love, or just don't want to answer. Most calls that I don't take turn out to be political pitches, time share offers, requests for donations. My wife on the other hand has a intimate relationship with the phone and calls for her are a genuine thing, they must be, because they last so long.

So, what do you do?? Answer or let it record?

I also have no problem letting the answering machine do its job. Frankly unless its family or someone I know is going to call I never answer the darn thing.:D I also let most of my cell phone calls go to voicemail as well.

I let the machine pick up the calls. I got in that habit when doing rescue because my phone rang off the wall daily with people who wanted me to fix their animal problems. It got to be too much to handle so I'd have the machine pick up and then I'd return all calls after dinner.

I have no problem with not answering my phone. In fact, it's quite luxurious to be able to ignore it! Same with my cell phone. I assign special rings to the people in my address book and if you're not assigned, I don't answer. Leave a message! :)

My answering machine does it's job fine. I deal with the messages when I want. Emergencies immediately, others at my convenience.

I don't use my landline for anything other than my internet connection and sometimes I'll give the number to service people but since I'm expecting their call I'll answer it. Most times when my landline rings it's polls or salespeople. I need to update my Do Not Call registry again. It expires after a few years. Usually my cell phone calls are from people I know and I always try to answer in a timely manner. I don't let my cellphone ring without answering it.

After years of having to answer the phone whenever it rings day or night (24 hour call out for funeral directors business) when we sold the business and moved house one of the things we were looking forward to was not having to shush the kids when the phone rang and the luxury of choosing whether to answer or not. So what do we do when the phone rings? Dash to it to get it quickly!!! Some habits are hard to break.

Actually, I'm registered with the "National Do Not Call registry" list, and since then, most of our calls are either friends or family! So we ususlly answer. :D

I have caller ID so I can choose if I want to answer the phone or not, but I go one step further I don't always answer the door.

I have a sticker that says 'If you are selling, collecting, bringing politics or religion. Don't ring my door bell.

Sometimes people think they will try anyway, I just don't bother opening the door to them.

I let the machine answer the phone, even on the Do Not Call List, you receive too many calls from other sources allowed to call. Family knows to leave a message.

I've never been one to drop everything just to answer the phone. If it's that important they'll leave a message or call back. :wah:

I answer it if the number is shown. But it's a good thing I answered it the other day as it was a fellow member from here but the number came up as "name unknown/phone number unknown". I don't know why I answered, but it was a good thing, but other than that, I let the machine get it.

Well I have caller ID. If I don't know who the person is....I don't answer. To be honest, if I know who the person is, I still might not answer :wah:. I have to be in the mood to talk on the phone.

The place I live now has good reception on my cell phone. I hardly plug my regular phone in anymore. Usually a bunch of telemarketers call the house phone anyway asking for the wrong person. Its like people give random numbers and it just so happen to be mines.
