Jack Layton: NDP

Post by koan »

I'm about to read an article about Jack Layton in a magasine called "Common Ground". Being that the publication is socialist by nature, I'm sure they like Layton. I do not.

He has an alligator smile. I shall report back if I decide he is not a wolf in sheep's clothings.

Any Canadians (or other) with an opinion of the man that they'd like to share?

oh... puke.

I just finished reading it and it was the most biased article I've read in a very long time. The questions all degraded and set up the other parties then segued Layton to showcase how he would fix the problems. He completely skirted around one topic without being called on it and managed to not only plug his book but promote himself as growing up taking care of homeless people through the small church somehow seemingly connected to his blind grandfather.

I had met Layton in the early nineties, when he was a Toronto coucillor. I liked him, and I was pleased when he became the leader of the New Democratic Party.

He was a welcome change from the usual dogmatic, dour NDP types who seemed to have a penchant for frumpy attire. Jack seemed to be a more polished and agreeable leader.

I was pleased with the way he stood up against G.W. Bush, especially when our current PM is Dubya's loyal little lap dog.

My feelings towards him have changed over the last few years . I'm greatly annoyed at him and the Green Party's Elizabeth May's attempts at linking our military contributions in Afghanistan to some sort of American imperialist venture. Afghanistan is a very different conflict than Iraq. We are participating there as part of a united NATO mission.

Secondly, it's high time that the Liberals, NDP and the Bloc Quebecois pull the switch to the "off" position on Stephen Harper's Conservatives. All this dillydallying to keep a minority government in power this long only shows that the parties are looking out for their own fortunes, rather than the nation.

So, overall, my esteem for Layton has pretty much vanished, but I think it's more of a symptom of my disillusionment with the NDP. Unfortunately, the Green Party doesn't look any better to me, so I may have to vote Liberal in the next (hopefully soon) election, by default.

I voted NDP at the appropriate time in my life; when I was young.

They have had chances and they have proven that they know nothing about the real world of finance. Politically, I believe that, if the federal government is to exist, it is doomed to be an impersonal leviathan of which we can make no humanitarian demands as it is not human. The government is a business. It is in the business of making money/financial gain for our country in its internal decisions and dealings with other countries. Local governments should be the only level expected to deal with real people's problems.

My concern with Layton is that he pretends to be the idealistic common man's wet dream of a compassionate leader. That makes him a bigger liar than the other party leaders, imo.

Another problem I have with the NDP is that a lot of their supporters are aged baby boomers who still cling to the hippie ideals of their youth, even though they are sixty now, and know damn well that naive idealism just doesn't cut it in the real world. Being in a room with these people is vomit inducing.

What we need is a leftist party with pragmatic principles and a backbone, not a social club for geriatric flower children.

My problem with the NDP, and other socialist governments, is that they want to legislate compassion and make it compulsory via government. By doing that, we remove the requirement for individuals to retain and practice compassion on a personal, individual level.

That is how I see the community affected by leftist rule.

Ill refrain from stating my opinion until I find out who he is. Its only fair.

Oh what the hell.....From everything koan said Id have to say hes a real drain on intelligence everywhere and if there were more like him civilization as we know it would crumble.

Hes a danger to society and I for one am inclined to initiate a movement, a campaign to eradicate him, his kind and all literature pertaining to his madness.
I AM AWESOME MAN
