Laptop Problem

I was using it plugged into the power and the adaptor cord got pulled out accidentally and the end stayed in the computer. Being a dud battery, the computer shut down immediately. So I pulled it out, got some duct tape and put the end back onto the cord. The adaptor cord, made up of 2 wires, has one positive wire and one negative wire (who knew?) and when I put it back into the computer it didn't turn on and none of the charge lights which went on before are on now. I've gotten the power adaptor fixed but it still won't work. Now, I have no idea how electricals work beyond flicking a switch and things magically coming to life; but could I have possibly put the positive and negative round the wrong way and when I plugged it back into the computer, inadvertently shorted it out or blew it up or something, can that happen? Or can a battery be so old that it will no longer work?

Yes you sure could have put the wires on the wrong way If you put the pos. on the neg. side or the neg. on the pos. it will not work. Your better off getting a new one made for your PC. Plus a new Batt and try it. The price of a new plug and batt may be all you need? Good luck with your pc.
