When the Light Goes On

Post by QUINNSCOMMENTARY »

Martha, what are you doing?

Turning on the light what does it look like I am doing?

But Martha, you forgot to pull down the shades.

Oh my, I did forget, turn off the light, turn off the light!

Martha, don’t you know what they do to people who use banned light bulbs…it’s lights out.

But Herman we have a dozen of those incandescent 100 watt bulbs left, what am I supposed to do just throw them away and use one of those twisty things? :sneaky:

You know the rules, it not our choice what light bulb to use, the government says what kind of bulb we must use. Don’t you remember that law went into effect way back on 2012?

Oh yes, now I remember. When does the law banning fireplaces go into effect?

Think positive Martha, we are helping to save the Polar Bear. :)

I'd rather give up the ice maker!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Note: Beginning 2012 the 100 watt incandescent bulb will be phased out and you will only be able to buy energy efficient bulbs and in 2014 the same rule applies to lower watt bulbs as well. It is a good thing, perhaps but it doesn’t matter, the federal government made a law and you will comply...and somebody will make a great deal of money replacing all your light bulbs.

Hah!

If climate change is occurring (as I think it is) light bulbs will be the least of our woes.

Apart from anything else you'll have hordes of displaced Mexicans coming north in waves that will make your current wetback issue look like nothing.

I HATE these "Green light bulbs"...!!!!

If you break one of the new curley que fluorecsents in your home you better get a haz-mat team to clean it up pronto, and cut out the chunk of carpet it broke on or risk giving your family cancer or mercury poisoning... That must be good for the environment, isn't it.????? :wah: LOL, But I heard that mercury gives corn an added boost when it's turned into ethynol, something like nitrous oxide does for drag racers when it's added to they're fuel........ (sarcasm)... :p

Actually, the statistics on how much toxic mercury poisoning of our rivers, lakes and and oceans from these "Green" bulbs is astounding, but I'm sure the enviro-wacko's will have some cosmicly enlightened way to explain that this really IS best for us and our planet..... "LOL" (for Spot)...:wah:

There are many people now also complaining of migraine headaches because of using these "green light bulbs", and many are turning away from them.... People in general find these light bulbs irritating and obnoxious.... Just another insane reason why this whole global warming thing is a joke, just look at what it's doing to us all...?

Why do the liberal elitist tree huggers keep forcing this gW crap on everyone, and wanting us to change to so-called alternatives that indeed are more toxic to the environment, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY ARE MORE DANGEROUS TO US AND OUR LOVRD ONES, not to mention more dangerous to have in our homes..??? It's just astonishing, the level of insanity within this "green" movement.... :-2

As for me........ I've invested in several cases of "natural light", sunlight reproducing incandecsents, in every wattage avaliable....... Enough to last me a lifetime......

The enviro-nuts and global warming crowd can bite me, I'm going to be able to relax and fall asleep in my little blissfully incandecsently lighted house, reading a book with pleasure and comfort, while they snarl, squint they're bloodshot eyes from the unatural effects of those "green light bulbs", and remain in a bad mood blaming all humanity for their frustrations, any climate change that takes place, and the general way they feel in the morning......!

Muuuuaaaaahhhhhh.... I love this topic....!!! :guitarist The author rocks....

Snidely: :wah: You forgot the garden heaters (1 per square metre of garden) and swapping your car for an Abrams to give you that "gallons per mile" feel that'll really wind me up!

You could also organise public farting competitions - marked on technical merit and artistic impression like ice skating - heck, why not have ice farting competitions? Top athletes farting while doing triple toeloops has to be impressive, and the methane output will really demonstrate there's nothing to this global warming thing.

At least the entertainment will distract us as the ice sheets collapse, floods and hurricanes increase in number and worsen in ferocity and millions are starving and/or displaced by rising sea levels. None of which is happening, of course.

You don't work for an oil company or the US govt do you?

They are a pain to light. Usually you just click on your lamp once with the regular bulbs, but not these things. Have to click on twice before it "decides" to light. Guess, I'll have to stock up on the regular bulbs.

Well actually I bought one of those twisty light bulbs last December.

It's a GE energy smart 26w energy used = 100w light output. It is supposed to last "5" years, or "8,000" hours! It cost $5.00, and the regular 100w light bulb (that uses 100w energy) it replaced cost $1.09 and is only expected to last for 750 hours. So if you do the math, it seems the twisty bulb may not be so bad after all!

(And oh yeah, the new bulb really is just as bright as the old 100w bulb, that was using 100w of energy. So . . . .)

Well, I like the compact fluorescents. Really, the only thing you need to worry about is breaking one.

I sort of laughed at the energy savings part when people talk about changing them in the winter. They really don't save much in energy because the heat that you are not heating your home with from the lamp is replaced by the heating system. They really do save energy in the summer though. I'm not someone who gets on any green kick, but they do save on electricity cost when you are not heating.

The best thing about them is that you can take a fixture that says "60 watts maximum" and put a 100, 120, 0r 150 watt equivalent in it!

Now if you use air conditioning and run ten 60 watt incandescent (600 watts) at $0.08 per KWH, 10 hrs per day, that's about $1.52 per month. However, you are also paying $1.28 for cooling if your AC is 90% efficient. Replacing the ten with the 13 watt versions that have the same light as 60 watts. You are now paying $0.25 for the lights and $0.28 for the cooling. OK now, $2.80 - $0.53 = a savings of $2.27 for the months you use AC and $1.27 for the months you don't. Figure on very little savings for the months you use heating. Depending on where you live and you heating/cooling usage changes your savings, but you can probably figure on $10 to $20 per year.

Anyway, they are not that expensive if you shop around. The cheap ones are not always that good either. The best ones I found for cost that work properly are the brand name "Feit". I replaced most in the house about two years ago. Had one go out about 2 months ago. I went to Lowe's, and they had them on sale for $0.99 each, and they were the daylight type. I bought a case each of the 13 watt (60 W) 18 watt (75 W) and 23 watt (100 W). When I changed the one and put some in the remaining fixtures that didn't have them, I like the color spectra so much better. I went back, bought another case of each. They ones I took out had a color of 2700 K, the new ones are 5800 K, and 6500 K for the 100 watt equivalent. The color is so much more like the outdoors.

Now think about that $0.99 each. I would say they pay for themselves rather good considering how long they last. When they are not on sale, you can usually get a pack of three for maybe $4.99.

It is foolish to take away the freedom of choice. Doesn't the term pro-choice have any real meaning?

No, this is the act of a fascist.

I personnel like them. However, if I could get away with it, I would take a baseball bat to everyone who likes to take away my freedoms. You like such mandates, but they are not safe around kids.

Baby killer...

This is a choice that responsible adults should have. Only safe things should be mandated if there is a reason to. Nothing unsafe should ever be mandated. You want to mandate light, then mandate the LED types. By 2012, they should be at a reasonable cost, and they are twice as efficient as fluorescents!

Some brands are simply no good. Try a different brand.

I doubt it would make you any money. Compact fluorescents are getting cheap. Most people will conform.

Does this make me a black market bulb dealer? And how can it be a black market if I'm dealing in Light?

Just make sure you buy some black lights too.

Well, bastard doesn't have the same negative it once did. I consider myself green, I'm just not a nut about it. I assume you mean those who use a faschist philosophy to achieve their goals.

Yep, it looking more and more like we need them, and illegal unregistered ones, hidden, so they don't know who has them when they pass confiscation laws. We may have to have another revolution in our lifetime. The government, especially the liberal elite, are becoming more and more Marxist, Socialist, etc. Simply anti-American one way or another.

Depends on your point of view I guess. Probably not.

When used for defense, we want to give the bad guys lead poisoning, right?

Just make sure to use steel shot instead of lead shot when hunting birds in areas with water.
