Relay For Life

Post by mrsK »

Hello all.

Been a busy few weeks I am on the committee for "relay for life" raising money for cancer research.

We formed our committee 7 weeks ago & have been going full steam ahead since then.

We walked for 18 hours on Sat night,Sunday morning.

One man who had lost his sister walked for 17 hours.:-4

We camped out over night at our local football oval, over 500 people, bloody fantastic for a small town of 5ooo.

The community raised over $64,000 & money still coming in.

I have heard a lot said about our town being boring to live in ,nothing to do.

But when the chips are down the community come good.

I will be staying :-6

46 people were diagnosed with cancer in this town last year.

I am a contact person for these people if they need to talk about what is going on in their lives & where they can get help.

All the cancer survivors in the town help those who are going through the stages of getting well again.

Our mailman died of cancer last week, very emotional for his family on the night.

I was walking with a young kid,my grandsons friend 15,he asked me did only old people survive cancer?

I said no all ages can survive cancer why? He said there are only old people here,my baby brother was born with it,he is ok now but I hope he gets as old as you.

His baby brother lives in another town.

I cried:-1

Bless You MrsK!! You gave me chill bumps!!

My mom was the committee chairperson for Relay for Life in her Church and she organized our group for about 5 years and then called it quits, it was a lot of work on her part for people to just show up and walk.... I loved it though, we got rained out a few years in a row and stopped trying to camp out after the 3rd year in a row!

My Mom and Grandfather, and sister in law (just to name a few) are all survivors of Cancer and we walk in their honor and in memory of many that didn't survive. I loved the ligting of the candles....it was so emotional, put a lot of life's problems into perspective though!

I am glad you walked and good on your community with the funds they've raised already!! That is spectacular!!:-6

Thank you for taking the time to make a difference in our world MrsK! you are a wonderful lady!

We have mines & a water supply that has run off from cotton fields.

We also have Maralinga & we often get great dust storms from this direction:(

I am not saying that is the cause of the high incidents of cancer but makes you think & wonder .:-6

This thread so deserves not being lost.....we all need to be reminded that nobody is safe from this disease and for those that are lucky enough to escape its clutches we must remind ourselves that there but for the Grace of God go I.....Heather you do what many just talk about and some would love to do if they could......Thank God for

people like you because those who have been involved in some way with the disease will know without folk like you life would be so much harder.God Bless you my Friend.
