High Petrol Prices ---- Then Selectively Boycott

We are hitting 106.9 p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying £1.10 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't

continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT,whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take a ggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place

not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

Now, don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ..

THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.

(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the

next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE.

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso.

This begs the question, however, where does Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrisons, Jet etc etc get their petrol supplies from ? Is it from BP or Esso ? Perhaps somebody could research this. Because if these companies do get their supplies from BP or Esso then obviously this 'boycott' will not work. I unfortunately just haven't got the time for this project, even if I knew where to start researching !

Where do you think they get it from? The supermarkets buy from the oil refineries they don't actually refine the stuff themselves. The bulk of the cost in petrol is made up of tax.

As to research I suggest you try the internet. Where asda et al get their petrol from is not exactly a big secret.

If the UK is like the US, you'll be killing your neighbor long before you hurt BP or Esso. Gas stations are locally owned franchises here. You can drive a local out of business quickly without causing the big corporations to so much as blink.

I suggest you pick a local guy and get everyone to give him all your business and shun the corporate-owned stations

Going away slightly from this Gill...the motorist is really taking a big slap at the moment. Ok some say.....why drive then......living where I do I have no option and also in my line of work I dont either.I have to pay an £8 charge just to get into London.My little 2000 4x4 I have to pay double road tax for also I have to have it due to where I live and the floods that I have to encounter at times.My friend who has a peoples carrier 2.5 pays half that.My other friend who has a lorry also does.Certain lorries have now to pay £200 per day just to get into London.Later in the year Vans will have to also.I have never in my life had a car accident that was my fault and yet every year my Insurance is just getting higher.Dont you think I would love to say......to hell I dont want any cars........but the truth of the matter is I cant as apart from what I have already said I cant get about like I used to due to health problems.Yes I can walk........but not how much I would like to thats for sure.I dont know where all this will end but I will tell you something..... I was in Central London last Sunday when the charge is lifted and it wasnt a pretty sight with jams etc.Yes something has to be done but making people think about having no car when some is their lifeline

is not the answer and yet with the price of petrol and everything that goes with it Im sure some are thinking that already.

I was also wondering that Gill:o and did you se on telly the other night i think it was BP had profits of 13.2 billion?

Getting them to right to their MP would be more use. When they had that spontaneous hauliers action the govt were shitting themselves. They might think they govern but it's only by our consent and they need to be reminded every now and again, just as the great british public have to remember. The prospect of losing your seat will waken up the doziest of the MP's.

Not quite that simple to tell. A lot of them are actually franchised and are like mini supermarkets where they make the real money but with all the corporate logos it's hard to tell which is a franchise and which is not. It's a pointless campaign-although when shell were boycotted over plans to dump an old oil rig in the north sea that was effective. But that was european wide.

Carol, I am not suggesting not using a car - I am in a similar predicament as you. Yes I can walk, but not that far, nor can I stand for very long - an old school injury rearing it's ugly head.

I am suggesting, through that C & P'd e-mail, that we avoid using BP or ESSO petrol, pick another company's petrol. If everybody did that then BP and ESSO are bound to notice a severe drop in sales, and it would cause them to lower their prices !
