Reclassify PETA as a Slaughterhouse?

Post by grh »

Are the facts in this thing 'actual' facts or made up facts? I ask because I read this and I can find lots of suspicious stuff about this consumer group, but i couldn't find anything telling me that it is a pack of lies.

Anyone have a clue?

Wouldn't you think they have to be actual facts since these groups could be sued and these folks actually exist?

Consumer Group Asks Virginia Government to Reclassify PETA as a Slaughterhouse

(1/17/08)

New Data Shows PETA Killed 97 percent of Dogs and Cats in 2006

WASHINGTON, DC- Yesterday the nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom formally petitioned Virginia's Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), requesting that the government agency officially reclassify People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as a slaughterhouse.

An official report filed by PETA itself shows that the animal rights group put to death nearly every dog, cat, and other pet it took in for adoption in 2006. During that year, the well-known animal rights group managed to find adoptive homes for just 12 animals. Not counting pets brought to PETA for spaying or neutering, the organization killed 2,981 of the 3,061 “companion animals” it took in. According to VDACS, the average euthanasia rate for humane societies in Virginia was 34.7 percent in 2006. PETA's "kill rate" was 97.4 percent.

Who are they to protest me? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're yelling about!

I found this. I've never cared for the PETA organization myself, a little to out there for me.

Here's a piece of the article that would support what you posted though.

PETA is even willing to see animals killed before they are made proper and humane use of by humans. A classic example of this approach came to light 2003 federal litigation. PETA and other animal-liberationist organizations sued to prevent elephants from being imported from Africa and placed in zoos. The elephants in question were endangering the ecosystem of the world famous Kruger National Park. The court noted that granting the injunction would cause the elephants to be culled rather than save their lives. But the attorney for PETA and its liberationist co-plaintiffs told the court that the pachyderms “will be better off if…killed rather than imported and placed in zoos.”

Wow Sheryl, what a quote you provided. I would have thought they would have been against the whole aspect of culling an elephant herd.:(

The group has some hair raising beliefs, and can be very violent. I'm surprised so many celebrities would want to be spokespersons for them.

On my old computer, I had a ton of links about PETA. Not the official, to be digested by the public stuff - but the dirty little secrets they don't want bantered around. It took a whole lot of time to find the links and I just don't have that kind of time right now.

Both PETA and the HSUS would like to end all animal ownership. They both put lots of time and money into supporting Breed Specific Legislation and mandatory spay/neuter laws. The HSUS raises tons of cash from people who assume that they are affilitated with the local Humane Society shelter when in fact - the HSUS doesn't have a single shelter nor do they support any shelters. PETA has (or had) a couple of "shelters" in New England that claimed to help rehome stray cats. An investigation showed that ALL of the cats that came into the shelter were euthanized.

OK Fuzzy

I think you need to rephrase what you have just written & say what you really think:wah:;)

Pink has probably never seen sheep being eaten alive with blowfly strike.

Maybe she should come out & have a look before she talks about things she knows nothing about.:-6
