Last March I went to see Cirque du Soleil's "Varekai" here in Canberra, and one of the acrobat dancers there was on crutches. He was fabulous. Sort of weirdly, that's on television here tonight. Varekai, I mean.

Impressive on TV, but in the flesh, they blow you away, Red Glitter. I hope you can one day get to a performance. I managed to get to Quidam in Vancouver a few years ago. Saw, I think, the Beatles one on TV.
This is a tangent, but have you ever been to a performance of the Blue Man Group? They are cool too. Again sort of theatre of the absurd mixed with old Italian street theatre. And just people. Not circus animals.

Sometimes Cirque comes to Las Vegas (about 2 & 1/2 hours from me) so I will look into going next time they're there.

Fabulous!! Las Vegas, WOW !! That must be one amazing place. Did you see the Egyptian Government were planning to copyright - retrospectively - the pyramids etc. I'd like to see them try to collect royalties?!!! Grin.

Ha! Copyright the pyramids?? I hadn't heard of that! Thats' interesting. The Luxor might be in trouble then.:wah: Las Vegas is a weird place, I can handle it for about 2-3 days and then I'm ready to go home. It's like when you first get there you feel the bright lights and the din of casinos and city noise and it's exciting. After awhile the city that was looking glamorous and lively starts looking dirty and seedy. That's just my take of course, lots of people love Vegas. I go theere a lot on day trips for shopping and conventions and stuff.
The sex aspect is prevalent everywhere even though Vegas has been trying to adopt a more family oriented theme. In the shopping malls at the entrance and exit you will find what I call "beaver cards" (I'm tacky, I know) these little business card things with naked chicks on them with a star covering the vitals) and phone numbers to call "for an exciting time." They hire people to throw these cards down on the ground at the doors of the mall. Man, little kids see that stuff.
And last time I was there, there were men on the sidewalks with shirts that read "A NAKED GIRL IN YOUR ROOM IN 30 MINUTES! CALL ###-####!!" I laughed so hard at that.
But Vegas has some cool properties. They have made it with a theme park atmosphere (much to my dismay as they keep tearing down historical 50 year old casino hotels to make new ones) and you can go to New York, Italy, Venice specifically, France, Brazil, Spain, or King Arthur's land any time you want, just by changing casinos or hotels. the Belaggio is a favorite of mine with its Italian decor.
At the rate they ar egoing with all their new construction, soon there will be nothing left of historical Las Vegas. they keep tearing down and imploding properties which is a show of its own.

I've seen bits of Las Vegas on films of course, but no, I've never been there. It sounds like an interesting place to visit. Once, when I was flying from Oklahoma City to LA, the plane flew over the city. It was dark and LV looked like an emeral jewel. Bright green. Like nothing I've ever seen before from the air.
I don't think any place really compares to any other. They all hold their own magic, even if the magic is a bit seedy. Sometimes, because the magic is a bit seedy. I've never been in Arizona, either. Have driven Route 66 as far as New Mexico.
As for copyrighting landmarks, it's an interesting idea. In theory, any country can make any laws it likes. And it can take action to enforce them within its own territories. You would have to have a lot of international power at your disposal to back up any attempt to enforce such laws overseas, I think. There are international agreements on copyright, but I very much doubt whether these are very binding, especially when retrospective, and on stuff that's been in the public domain forever.
