Dog Snacks

Post by RedGlitter »

I was looking for recipes for a friend's new puppy and thought I'd put some here for you guys who have dogs.

Simple Simon's Birthday Bones

From the Three Dog Bakery Cookbook

Prep Time: 5 min

Cook Time: 20 min

Temperature: 375 F

Ingredients:

2 cups whole-wheat flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 cup natural peanut butter

1 cup skim milk

Cooking Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a bowl, combine flour and baking powder.

In another bowl, mix peanut butter and milk.

Add wet mixture to dry, and mix well.

Turn out dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll out to 1/4-inch thick and cut out shapes.

Place on a greased baking sheet and bake 20 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool on a rack then store in an airtight container.

Makes 30 large bones

Garlic and Cheese Treats

Nikita's Favorite Description: Cheese and garlic dog biscuits Prep Time: 20 minutes Cook Time: 30 minutes Temperature: 375 Ingredients:

4 cups whole wheat flour

1 cup corn meal

1/2 cup veg. oil

1 1/4 cup water

3 tbl. garlic powder

1 cup shredded cheese

Cooking Directions: Mix dry ingredients in large mixing bowl, add oil & water.

Once your mixture has formed a dough, add cheese. Continue to mix until all the cheese is involved.

On a wheat floured surface, roll out 1/2 of the dough to approx. 1/4" thick and cut with assorted shapes of cookie cutter.

Line up biscuits on cookie sheet and bake for about 30 min. or until totally brown.

Cool before serving. Tips: I like to use cookie cutters that correlate with the upcoming holiday (ie Valentine's Day, Easter, Christmas, etc.) That way it is very festive. My dog's LOVE these treats. They never want to eat store bought biscuits again.
