The Abberwick Grail

Post by joesoap »

For the tiny population of Abberwick, it was the deity they revered above all else, above life itself. For twenty-seven years, ever since a young Egbert Chunty had released the strange yet compelling object from its ancient resting place in his garden, beneath his onions, it was the reason for their existence.

How would the outside world understand? What impact would such a sacred artifact with all its power and intrigue bestow on a world that just wasn't ready? Christians would realize their true emptiness. Islam would slap itself heavily about the chest and head while Aboriginals would merely wander off in the opposite direction. Organized religion the world over would crumble and fall at the concept that the simple folk of Abberwick already knew.

The community pulled together unconditionally and without conviction because they knew the secret. They held in their hands the potential for a harmonious new world. The dream of the human condition laid to waste was within their grasp.

Dr Brights theological and intellectual curiosity got the better of him. In a quest to fully understand, and concealed in the depth of the darkest of nights, he purposefully violated the shrine in which the truest of believers had shrouded their grail. With an unsteady hand, his torch played across the iridescent icon, sending light scurrying to its component colours with all the natural beauty of the most brilliant rainbow. Trembling at the wrath of the unknown, his fingers felt there way around the prize, and fearful of further examination, discovered the embossed word "TIZER" about its base. Needless to say, the community was devastated.:-2
