Poor diet blamed for massive increase in learning disorders

Post by capt_buzzard »

In a major study carried out last year at Durham Health Education Authority in the United Kingdom, it was learned that the unprecedented growth in learning difficulties in children may be down to deficiencies in their diet. It blamed junk food for contributing to the increase in attention deficit disorder, dyslexia and autism.

It is suggested that a diet rich in essential fatty acids, found in oily fish, can improve the learning abilities of children by helping them to concentrate and focus their minds.

Studies carried out have found that a fish oil supplement can improve reading ages by four-year olds in just six months. It added that junk food is very unhelpful as some of its contents stop the body from breaking down nutrients needed by the brain.

Well, it makes perfect sense. You get out of your body what you put into it, right? All the information we have about proper diet and exercise, all the warnings about a lax lifestyle, and still we continue to feed our bodies crap. It's sad. An "enlightened" society....HAH! What a joke! :yh_eyebro

Breast milk is also better for babies then comercial formulas. Although the comercial formulas are being improved from what they were.

You have to go back a bit... Poor diet during pregnancy contributes to the mental health of a child.. That is after all where the brain cells begin.. Then after birth problems continue to worsen when the child is poorley nourished.

That's fairly well stressed in the UK! http://www.preg.info/book/welcome.htm is a good source of general information.
