"Why not just tell people I'm an alien from Mars. Tell them I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight. They'll believe anything you say, because you're a reporter. But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, 'I'm an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight', people would say, 'Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He's cracked up. You can't believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth.' " Michael Jackson

My mom and dad had a lot of Elvis, Del Vikings and other 1950s do-wop stuff and I grew to love that. Later on they had Charlie Rich, Roy Clark, John Denver, Carpenters, Helen Reddy, basic 70s stuff. The later still, more country like Reba McEntire.

My grandmothers liked Charlie Pride, Charlie Rich, country gospel and stuff like Perry Como.

I grew up with the AM Gold Country stuff. You know Conway Twitty, Loretta Lyn, Patsy Cline, Mel Tillis and all that stuff.

When I started paying attention to rock music it was Led Zeppelin; Jethro Tull; Pink Floyd; Emerson, Lake, & Palmer; Yes; Steely Dan. I still love all of it.

Growing up with would include junior high (Blondie and other junk) and then high school was Journey, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Black Sabbath and Bruce Springsteen who was my saving grace at the time. I wore out Nebraska and Asbury Park.

My aunt was an influence, she let me play her collection of Glenn Miller and Bing Crosby records. The nearest my parents ever got to music were the South Pacific and My Fair Lady soundtracks, they were hopeless. None of my grandparents ever owned anything that played recordings but my grandmother had a piano and introduced me to music - the Teddy Bears' Picnic and people like Albert Ketèlbey and George Washington Johnson. The world, as they say, has moved on.
