My Dog Outcome

Post by RedGlitter »

I am back from seeing the public defender. I took the deal they offered me. I will pay $300 for a kennel without license and be on probation for a year. They dropped the barking dog charges. They are asking for a 30 day reset to give me time to move the dogs out. Then I will go back to court and tell them what I've done.

I'm not too disappointed in the offer. Legally I was wrong to run a rescue with no permit and couldn't very well argue the charge and considering it was supposed to be a minimum of $750, I think I did fairly well.

What angers me is that they refuse to release the addresses and phones of the complainers, citing "victim's rights." Whatever happened to the right to know your accuser?! I do know their names though so it won't be hard to find out where they live.

Once I move the dogs out, this will all be over. It's going to be weird shutting down because I've defined myself as an animal rescuer since 1999. It's what I *do.* Now I'll have to find something else. I need a break though. I've been burned out for a couple years.

Can't you get a licence?

Anyway, it sounds as though you ought to have a "holiday" for a while. A change is as good as a rest.

I'm lost on the first part Bill....but I can't get a license because I have to live on 2 acres minimum land for that and I only have an acre and a quarter. They won't permit me a license. I love the dogs but I will be greatly relieved when they are moved to a better place and will get homes. I haven't had a vacation in about six years.

Terri you are a great person...you have dedicated your love and time to these dogs and their happiness. As you know, I also worked for a long time at a dog shelter, it is a very heart breaking yet also rewarding job. You have stood by these dogs, when others didn't give a damn. They will be okay, you made sure of that.

Now as Bill said, take a well earned break, relax with the comfort of knowing that all you fought for was not in vain.

So where will you move the dogs to... another shelter?

How come you can not find out there names? Up here you can.

I must say you probably do need a vacation from taking care of all those dogs. You could probably help out at a shelter if you get bored.

Yes. I'm sending them to another rescue an hour away from me, in a slightly cooler climate. The ones who meet the right criteria will then ship off to Helen Woodward Foundation in California and be placed in homes and the ones who don't meet regulations will stay at my colleague's rescue and be placed by her.

Because Arizona has probably the tightest "victim's rights" laws in the nation. We even wrote it into our state constitution. I can still find out who they are though.

Yeah, I will do something. I will always help animals. I always have in one way or another. It's just time to take a backseat and let someone else take the reins for a while.
