Me too, Maj. Where and when for you? For me PerisherBC week from 19 Aug. I stay at the Man. Got my ski stuff out last night, mainly because I was freezing me ums off and thought I'd wear thermal undies (black fluffy koala feather lace of course!!!!)

Mr Howard made some very interesting comments yesterday. Said he regarded this as our own Hurricane Katrina and wished to avoid what happened there, when the US federal Government was slow to act, with results that embarrassed the country.
The bit about mandatory health examinations for all kids under 16 seems to be getting the most flak at the moment.
Personally, I'm for the human rights and civil liberties of the innocent children who appear to have been systematically abused. Identifiying such kids would seem to be important. In western society parents don't have an automatic right any more to harm their children - in some other countries beating and mutilating children or selling them as slaves is fairly routine and even acceptable behaviour. Enforcing medical checks here will prevent conspiracy to coverup wrongdoing, in the children's interest.
If there aren't enough civilian law enforcers to help start the process of sorting out this tragic situation, I've no problem with using soldiers for humanitarian work.
But it's all a very complex situation, and everyone involved is going to be treading on eggshells.
