Another Wedding Question

Post by RedGlitter »

Buttercup's wedding song thread has me thinking.

What was your wedding like and if you aren't yet married and want to be, what kind of wedding do you hope to have?

I've always made wisecracks about having a courthouse wedding in an expensive dress and stuff like that.

I'm still not averse to doing that although more probably I'd go for a forest wedding or an old fancy church (not the prefab box kind they build now!)

The one time I was planning to marry someone, I wanted to do it on Hallowe'en and wear a black gown but he refused to be seen with me in black. He was more traditional than I was.

I'd want traditional vows, replacing the "obey" part for sure.

I'd still want a mostly bluegrass reception with non-fancy food and the best champagne. Whatever was needed to make sure everyone had fun. I don't like stuffy weddings and stuffy receptions.

I used to balk at the idea of being "given away" saying I don't "belong' to anyone so you can't give me away. It's my choice to be married so I will give myself. I still feel like that but but I'd still let my dad do the giving thing because it's the right thing to do and with my mom gone now, I'd make sure he still said "Her mother and I do." That too is only right.

I had a fairly traditional wedding, married in church (because I believe that taking marriage vows are a religious thing), my dad 'gave me away' (couldn't wait to get rid of me ;) ). My two step-daughters were bridesmaids and my hubby's nephew was a page boy.

It was all very normal but I had a lovely day. I would do things differently now but I don't know if would ever get married again. I am happy with my other half and enjoy being married to him but I think if I was on my own I would take some time out and be independent for a while.

Plus, at my age you don't look so good in a frilly wedding dress!!!

I would like one of each. I already had the big Ball one, all the finery, the bridesmaids in pint the entire family line, friends from everywhere etc..... it was fun at the time but never again.

Next one if I have another.... fly away someplace lovely and have a small ceremony and come back for a reception at home. Super simple.

we got married in Disney World, it was very traditional, beautiful, perfect......

I'm strange cuz I never wanted the whole big wedding thing but hubby did and that's where we lived at the time so that's where we had it. I would've chosen to do something completely on our own in Las Vegas or on the beach on some island somewhere. :-6

well me and my partner are planning ours at the moment we are just going to have a quiet wedding with a couple of witnesses then a party at night for family and friends.

Then when we have saved enough money up we will renew our vows with a big fairytail wedding. Which will be the traditional church wedding with a huge dress and al my family and friends.
Live life to the max as you only get to do it once!! make your dreams come true :-4

Pinky;645770 wrote: Ideally, I really wanted to get hitched by Fritton lake, but they wanted to charge us a fortune just to have the ceremony there, plus it's extra to get a registrar to come out to perform it, so we opted for Lowey registry office (I don't do church) so we could spend a bit more on the reception, which was a full-on medieval banquet. All the guests dressed up, ate with just a knife, drank mead and wine. The food was authentic too and we had minstrels playing during the courses and games in between...everyone thumped on the tables and yelled to whoever was competing from their table. The whole lot cost just over £1000, and we got everything included. Not bad hey?
That sounds so cool Pinky:)
Very nearly perfect ... :D
