Thus spake Mr Benito Blair (but he may have had his fingers crossed).

"Oxford University is to take fewer British students

By John Clare, Education Editor

Oxford University, under-funded by the Government by £95 million a year, is to cut the number of British undergraduates it admits and "vigorously" recruit more foreign students, who pay the full cost of their degrees."

Wentu, my nieice has just got into Sommerville Oxford and her parents are far from loaded.

On the point of foreign students, she had the results to study either classics or english, her preferred option was english, she was informed by the college that she had no chance (4 A* A levels) because the college english course was full up with fee paying foreign students. these were obviously not studying english as a language but as the subject itself. She is now doing classics.

Foreign students actually pay something like 50% more than British students... Well this is what I've been told by foreign students at my University and when they have to pay for resits etc, they again pay more than British students.

So is it any wonder they want more foreign students?
