I decided to switch it up a bit, I was listening to a person’s play list; and it put me in the mood for a story, so here are some lyrics of several songs she had playing. They are switched up a bit, stuff added, stuff taken away, but I bet you can figure out the songs. The first paragraph is just a lead in. Actually I deleted the first paragraph.

No rain, at least not in the forecast for Monday; just partly sunny is all. The rain is just fine, but not when I’m heading back home sans a window. I can watch puddles gather water for awhile. You might think that sounds crazy, maybe I am. You can always read a good book when it rains; escape a little bit to somewhere else before it starts, or stops. Pour a little iced tea and tell someone what you are thinking; look at the rain outside, and go wake up whoever it was you were talking to.

I have a friend in Alabama, she has been there waiting on her man to get back from a war that’s been going on too long. The breeze will be blowing when he finally gets back, and he will. I worry about her; I want her to feel at home down there. Good God I wish she didn’t feel so alone down there. Nothing much I can do, I ain’t gonna drink alone up here. I hope she remembers that she has a lot of folks a little north of her that love her; and can’t wait for her to come visit later in the summer, drink a beer and act a fool up here.

I been hanging around this town too long. I spent all day today getting sober. Six white Russians, tall; mixed with raspberry Stoli and French vanilla Bailey’s, is just a little much after almost ninety days without a drink. Yeah I had one last Saturday, but that don’t count. A lot of time to end up hating what I am. I kept waiting, wanting to say, “Where have you been?” way, way too long. There aren’t as many corners where I am going.

Diana Krall is coming to the The Fabulous Fox Theatre in August, tickets will be expensive. If Ray was still alive and with her I might go, I don’t know who Chris Botti is; and he doesn’t know me. You don’t know me, what a good song; nice lyrics. I listened to it today, but it ended before it got to the meat of the story. I listened to Temptation instead afterwards. The whole you don’t know me thing is funny, especially when the song ends before it has a chance to tell it all. Surreal?

I’ll be drinking tea tomorrow; I’ll be sober. I imagine I’ll be sober from now on, yeah I said it. I just didn’t feel right afterwards today. I need to make up my mind, moderation, abstinence, or gluttony. I guess I need to get my things, it’s over here. No victims this time though. I lost at my own game.

I talk to angels from time to time, they usually know my name. I don’t wear shades so nothing to pull down tight, but the pain does make it alright. I try to not talk about addiction around certain folks. I see that weight loss, and I’ve met her family. Hope that boy doesn’t end up an orphan. She doesn’t have a lover; to her it ain’t nothing. Means a lot to me. She smiles when I come in, gonna make everything alright.

She had a bad day again, there was some coffee on her shirt, and one of her shoes was untied. She promises me that nothing is wrong. I probably wouldn’t understand if there was. Tells me she is sorry, she won’t be able to stay long tomorrow. The radio played the same song three times while I was there. She wasn’t wearing lipstick; I like it better that way; keeps it from smearing. There is going to be one too many bad days eventually, wonder what the note will say.

I ain’t too tall, but I could use a few pounds. My pants ain’t tight; too damn loose is what they are. I had a point, she has her own, not way up, but firm and they made me high. I waited on the thunder, saw the lightning, and decided to make a move in the night. It was summer, can’t wait for autumn to come rolling in. When you don’t seem to have as much to lose; you sit and wonder.

I heard a rumor about things getting better; the days wouldn’t be so bad. I whistled like I knew. Everyone has their own opinion, but I tell them I just want to protect you. I whisper your name. No one should ever be lonely. I imagine we all can find somebody that cares. Don’t dare me.

I feel tired; I think sometimes I’m alone. My appetite for pain is filled. I wonder if anyone really feels at home. Some of the things said to me help me struggle up that hill. I reckon someone hopes for me, and will until that smile returns to my face. I’ll just wait, can’t fail if I keep trying.

I’ll be running, no idea if it is the right or wrong direction, but I’ll be running fast. I hear something. I need a little shelter. Momentary lapse of reason? I went by that steeple, stopped; and stood in the shadow. Felt judged, by folks that had never met me. I see a lot of lost and lonely people.

Make you’re little get away, I’ll find you; or another you. No one else would do. I saw someone that looked like you, she was nicer too. You made your stand, I wonder if you planned it. I’m gonna do some things you wouldn’t let me do, you can keep the sweaters. I’ll keep my time, and give me back my goddamned rhyme.
