Post by Parker_scramble »

not to be sexiest, but i dunno if women make the best cops. i mean, what if there's a 300 pound man charging them. and they are isolated in a hand combat to combat scenario.

plus guys flirt wiht them and stuff.

and for soldiers, would they be good on the front line?

i mean, would you want a guy to be a midwife. i just think certain roles are best suited for a certain sex. i dunno.

yah and i know some guy on here is gonna mention handcuffs in a joke or something so go for it. lol.:guitarist :guitarist :guitarist :guitarist

When I had my second child I went to hospital and nearly died when this guy said to me, I'm your midwife! I was in the last stages of labour and I wouldn't get out of my dress as I didn't want a guy seeing my bits!

Well he did deliver my daughter as he was the only person there to do it, but I must say he was fantastic, he had much more understanding than the previous midwife(woman) that had delivered my son.

I think it's more to do with the person and how they handle situations.

Going to you orginal question, I don't believe many policemen, men or women, could handle a 300lbs guy.

hahah yah i was waiting for a handcuff joke or something along those lines.

but as far as the midwife comment, wow, thats awesome that a male midwife performed better than the female . i guess sometimes people stereotype . i didnt mean to stereotype. its just that i dunno, when it comes to physcial strength, usually men are stronger.. but i shouldnt say all men.. crap im out of shape. i bet most women are more atheletic than me. lol.

Cops? Sure, women prove themselves every day in that field. I think they know better than men how to calm people down and diffuse a situation.

Midwife? There are some things that are still a woman's territory. No matter how great the male midwife is, he's still never been there. That's just saying have a healthy respect for the woman midwife, not saying a man can't nurse one through pregnancy and do a fab job delivering a baby.

Soldiers? My jury is still out on this. I think in war you need thinkers as well as killers. Little boys (most!) grow up playing bad guys and like to have fun shooting each other. Most girls (most!) grow up to be nurturers.

Pioneer women had to protect themselves and families from bears and wolves, homidical indians, outlaws, etc and they did it all while doing woman things. But to stick them in a foxhole or expect them to act like a man in a war situation? I'm just not sold that most women could do it. There are always exceptions and I'm not saying women are wimpy or inadequate or less than men. I'm just saying that I think men may be better cut out for a long term killing aspect and is that not what war is? I'd rather see men out there if I had to see any.

I had two male doctors in attendance when I had my daughter and two female midwives - tbh when you've got a baby that you can't push out who is in distress and has the cord wrapped round her neck you don't give two hoots who is there!! Aliens from planet Zog could have delivered her and I would have been happy.

I have worn the Police uniform for 15 years, in some circumstances I fared better than my male colleagues and vice versa, it's the situation that dictates who handles it better not the gender of the officer.

As for female soldiers I agree with RG - I'm not convinced that women should be on the front line but I don't see why they shouldn't do other roles.

Midwife - I wouldn't have a problem with a male midwife, since in my experience most Gynaecologists and Gynaecological consultants/ surgeons are male, so they're clearly pretty ok at dealing with 'down there'

Soldiers - I've fought men and won in the past, so I don't doubt that with the proper training I would be equally effective on the front line.

I'm also a crack shot!

This is me!

Diuretic;572180 wrote: Stereotypes don't work all that well in real life. There is a positive stereotype that says women officers can calm a situation down better than a male. There's perhaps some truth in that because in a volatile situation two males (one a copper the other a potential arrested person) will start the old testosterone battle and it's hard for a male to back down in front of another male. To accede to a woman is less damaging to the male self (we're used to it). But I've seen women officers actually make a situation worse by being more aggressive than a male - that's part of job socialisation of course and over-compensation.

Women officers handling big men who need to be arrested. These days with the more advanced equipment available physical strength isn't the determinant it used to be. A blast of oc spray can sort out even the biggest jock. Having said that I've been women officers hopping in and using physical force quite effectively (no, not a kick in the nuts, that would mean criminal charges). I've also seen male officers wimp out of a fight. No this isn't patronising bullshit, just observations from life.

You are right there Di. Have met some real wimps in Police uniforms. I remember one urgent assistance shout that my male colleague and I went to along with everyone else in the nick at the time - we arrived last because he was driving and took the long way round! Then after he allowed a (female) prisoner to assault me because he was to weak with her I refused to work with him again!!

Many times I was able to calm a situation somewhat just because of my 'Please don't fight, i'm just a girlie' routine!!! Having said that - it doesn't work on other women, then I left them to the blokes if I could, women fighting are evil!

But of course they are.

Women may not have the same physical strenght, but I do think they make just as good police officers and soldiers as men.

To think otherwise would just be stupid.
