Da Band's Chopper Slams Diddy, Signs With Cash Money, In trouble with the law

Post by dedo »

Rapper Chopper, formerly from the Bad Boy group “Da Band has been the topic of much discussion this week. On December 4th, Chopper, real name Kevin Barnes, is set to face trial on multiple counts of robbery, assault and theft charges. The charges stem from a an incident in which Chopper was pulled over on the July 31st weekend in Atlanta this year for speeding. When ticketed, police found he had prior charges pending, and detained him for the events on September 29, 2001 where the rapper allegedly robbed two men at gunpoint.

“If found guilty, he faces 90 years in prison, Paul Gardner, Chopper’s attorney, said to Vibe.com. “For all intensive purposed, if he gets one-tenth of the time he’s facing, his career would be over, based on how fast the music industry is moving these days.

Chopper is being charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of robbery in a general sense, two counts of 2nd degree assault, and one Theft charge.

“This is a five year-old trial that happened when he was 16 years old, Chopper’s lawyer said. “For the state to try him now after five years, and pursue him, is completely unwarranted. It’s a case of mistaken identity. The dangerous weapon was actually a bb gun that they alleged he committed the armed robbery with.

This news couldn’t have came at a worst time. Chopper recently signed with Cash Money Records,in an interview with MTV; Chopper says he decided which label to sign with based on one thing, who helped him when he was down and out. He explained that he felt deserted by Diddy when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans last year. believe if I’m working with you, you are me, Chopper said. “You’re a part of me if we’re getting this together.

Chopper said he felt he deserved more based on what he had done for the label up to that point, including paying for his videos out-of-pocket and waiting patiently for his turn in the spotlight as a solo artist.

“Puff is a multimillionaire, I’m a thousand-naire at that time, grinding, Chopper said. “I shot the [‘I See You Lil’ Daddy’] video and the remix with Lil Wayne and Jody Breeze without him even giving me an advance check. I did that thinking it was all love. Katrina hit, boom, took away my house, my mama’s house, took away a lot of stuff from my family.

“When that happened, I didn’t get no phone call [from Diddy], Chopper continued. “He didn’t call me and say, ‘Are you all right?’ He didn’t say, ‘I got these Sean John clothes and can make sure your family at least has clothes on its back.’ He didn’t do none of that. So at the end of the day, I felt played. That’s why I wanted to disband myself from the Bad Boy situation.
