Do you feel that there is anyone who has not had sex before they got married, or are even still a virgin now? I am not looking for anyone who is a virgin, but want to see the moral status of our society!

You'll need to qualify your question somewhat (99.99% of 9 year olds are virgins for example), maybe even set out your moral stance so we can see where you're coming from.

Is remaining a virgin what makes someone have a moral person?

Edit: sorry, pinky covered this question

Society's problem lies not in the retention of virginity but in the institution of marriage.

Our bodies are not made to remain virgins. They are made to procreate. So past the age of consent, What difference does it make?

Exactly, Flopstock...and Pinky took the words right out of my mouth. Who on earth would want to regain virginity? (Unless they had a hot scenario for getting rid of it again! :sneaky: )

Times really have changed.

When I was little, I grew up believing that I would be a virgin until I got married. As I became a teenager, I realized that this may not be a realistic choice for me. I lost my virginity at 22 years of age, way past when my friends did.

But I thought to myself, "What am I saving this for? Is this some sort of a prize that goes to the best bidder?"

I realized that sexual compatibility is a key element of a good relationship. My dad is very 'old school': he would say to me and my sister (but NOT my brother!): "Why would a man buy a cow if he can get the milk for free?" He was a product of his generation.

Of course, he wasn't a virgin when he married my mother, but you'd better believe that my mom was one!

I think it's absolutely ridiculous.

Considering that sexual pleasure is one of the greatest joys in life, why WOULD anyone want to be inexperienced?

Shouldn't this be in the friends, relationships and advice threads???

When I was in college I met quite a few american girls who were virgins, and happy to be that way, as they were saving themselves till they were married, and if thats their way then why not. I mean of course I was disapointed that they all would not immeaditaly sleep with me to see what it was like, but I think I got over it. Why do you ask?

I think if you have a strong faith then to remain a virgin until your wedding is commendable and a central part of that faith. When I was a teenager I was a very active member of the local Methodist Church and had a steady boyfriend who was too. We found it very difficult not to go 'all the way' but we didn't.

My life experiences changed as I got older and I decided that for me it wasn't so important anymore. I kind of viewed it as something to get out of the way. Which I did at about 22/23 - it was so unmemorable that I can't remember exactly how old I was! Sadly I picked the wrong man - never heard from him again (until I saw him on the news after getting sent to prison - but that's another story).

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I met my husband who was a widower and had only been with his wife - they met as young teenagers. He taught me all I know (:sneaky: ) and I wish that I had waited - it would have been special because it would have been with love not just lust.

So I admire anyone who chooses to stay a virgin until they meet a person special enough to share that first time.

One of my girlfriends in Sydney told me that she and her boyfriend had gone to see the local Pastor for pre marriage counselling, something her church insisted on. The first question she said they pastor asked was whether the two very nice young people had slept together. They admitted it, with blushes. He then refused to marry them.

This always seemed totally weird to me. Well a lot of that kind of church stuff does.

So there are some people who feel this is a far cry for morality, huh! I cannot honestly say that I am a virgin either, but do know of the damage to my Soul that came when I found out about the results of my past choices. I am trying to prepare to minister the Gospel to people and really what to see what is on the hearts of ordinary folks in society. I do appreciate your well thought out replies though.:)

How on earth does virginity or lack of it give an indication of the moral status of society? Also as an american you have some mores in common with other countries but also others that are uniquely american. What is regarded as acceptable by you may be an appalling attitude by others. Since there is no objective way of deciding what is moral assessing the moral status is impossible.

In the Bible (Genesis 19) Sodom and Gommorah were judged for their immorality, they faced the eternal punishment of Hell as well as their lives being taken. this started with the act of immorality and then was turned into homosexuality and they were eventually judged by God.

My morality is based on the Truth of God's Word and I know that my country isn't standing on the roots it once did, but there is a generation that is rising up and wanting to stand for purity and righteousness. (Matt 5:6):)

Erm, right, right, I think we see where you are coming from now. Well, good luck with that believing in the literal truth of the Bible thing, hope it works out O.K. for you. But a little advice, don't use your own particularist, mythological views to try and impose that version of "morality" on people who have no interest in what you choose to believe, though respect your right to do so. At least the poor Sods didn't have to put up with what Lot had forced on him in that cave he was reduced to after leaving Sodom. That was just plain gross. Fire and brimstone's a minor catastrophe compared to servicing two randy daughters and having it still talked about four thousand years later. Bugger that for a laugh, I say.

How does the iniquity of the City of Sodom relate to people losing their virginity? Why does Sodom being immoral make losing your virginity immoral?

How does losing your virginity damage your soul?

In fact, to quote Gen 19 back at you, Lot, a good man beloved of the Lord, offered the crowd his two daughters' virginity in return for leaving his guests in peace.

I think you have a lot of preparation to do.

P.S. Whats the state capital again? Wasn't there someone from Whicita here before, that was pretty cool. Well it was cool for me, because places like Kansas are kinda exotic when you live in Ireland, which I'm sure works both ways. :D
