Progressed?

I read an editorial in ESPN magazine, it was about Bobby Knight, however the author threw in the following statement. Political Correctness= Progress

Anybody agree? Disagree?

Hi Sheryl!

I almost completely disagree with that. The reason being that what started out as sensitivity for all became namby-pamby b*tching and whining for most and an excuse to correct others just for the sake of being superior. People want to be "correct" not because they care but because they don't want to appear stupid. It has become in my opinion, that we can no longer think for ourselves or even have our own opinions, right or wrong as they may be and that is treading some dangerous water.

We don't need PC. What we need are simple old fashioned manners. :)

Good topic, Sheryl.

:-5 I agree with Hamster we have bent over backwards for so long to please everyone, now our back is breaking. Get the damn Attorney's out of it, and screw PC correctness..

PC correctness is insane. George Carlin does a great bit about this very subject and he hits the nail on the head.

Yes what we need is good MANNERS to come back into our lives period.

Example my soon to be Son-in-law pulled my chair out for me at Christmas dinner at my sisters house, and he did it for all the women in the house which was about 8. I can't remember when someone pulled a chair out for me, or a man/women held the door open for me.. Or said excuse me when walking between me and another person having a conversation... IT IS ALL ABOUT MANNERS FOLKS, WE NEED THE BACK AND FAST.

1. Christmas is Christmas. don't like than call it what ever you want, but no laws have to be changed or protocol re-written to accomodate everyone else. If the want to call it the Holiday's fine, still Christmas to me and if your offended by that get a life.. It is a word nothing else.

2. If my Grand daughter isn't behaving at school I expect the Teacher to tell her so. She doesn't need a room full of people to set those wheels in motion. Just tell her to behave...
ALOHA!!

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.

WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

I agree Carla! Manners is key. Seems like society has become selfish along with all the PC crud.

I get mad when someone sues a company or someone else due to an accident of some sort. For example the big case that seemed to set of the fire storm of lawsuits, coffee and McDonalds. Common sense would of told the person the coffee was hot, and not a good thing to drink while driving.

The minority of laws/guidelines/regulations help us progress but most are just stupid. Why can't we wish people "merry christmas"? It's gone mad!

Why can't my daughter's teachers be allowed to apply sun cream to her in the extreme heat? Why can't the teachers still check for the presence of head lice (now a MAJOR problem here in the UK).....

The list goes on and on........it is insanity! A list of rules made by people who don't even live in this country or the country the makes rules about!

because Christmas is evil. Over here in the states there was a comic strip in the papers, one called "BC"

lady at the store wishes her friend a Happy Holiday. he says "which one? Thanksgiving, 4th of July??"

she said, "management won't let us say which one, so as not to offend anyone"

he says, "doing a good job pissing off the Christians"

I generally agree with everyone is that what we need in our Western societies is a bit more common sense and a lot less meaningless rhetoric and Orwellian double-speak about everything (and nothing).

Unfortunately common sense cannot be legislated for, its just up to us to teach our children some manners, and hope they make a better job of the world than we are managing at the moment.

Sad but true. :(
