The most melbournian song would be "I remember" by Paul Kelly when he is singing about the MCG.
Sydney wise, the James Reyn song "Reckless" about the manly ferry is a very good one too.

I was in Melbourne in early 2006 for three weeks and it looked to me like they are undergoing a construction boom. New buildings going up everywhere. Very impressive.
