I collect sand. I've never been to the ocean so I have people bring me a little of the beach.:wah: I have sand from Virginia Beach, Riviera Maya, Cancun, Myrtle Beach, and the beach where Gilligan's Island was filmed, among other places. Some came in their own pretty container, and others I bought cute little containers for.

RED

Since your collector of alot of things - what / how do you display them?

I've collected key chains - thousands - so I took the large shag chain, put my key chains on the swag chain. I have the swag chains on both sides of a door way.

I collect everything - ashtrays - vintage purses - sheet music - to '50's decor.RED.

I collect RED, - old pottery - suit cases - vases - cast iron - old tools - but I display my collections.

What do you do with all that you collect.?

I collect interesting boxes, bookmarks, and wine glasses.

The boxes are displayed on a shelf in my family room (with notes inside each one indicating where and when I got it), the bookmarks are used all the time, and the wine glasses are in a wall unit in my living room. When I feel like a glass of wine or champagne, I pull out a different one each time to use :)

I'm a great believer in *using* what you collect so you can enjoy it often :-6

It is funny you mention that, Peg. I had a supervisor once who collected bits of soil from places she had visited. She put the soil into little film cannisters and labeled each with where it was from. If every anyone was going away on vacation, she would be the one to say "Bring me some dirt". I got her some from Disney World once.

Books. I have zillions and zillions. I have bookshelves to put them on ;) I can hardly ever pass a used bookstore without going in, and coming out with something. I like older editions of classic literature, anything to do with the Civil War (particularly Gettysburg) and romantic thrillers (can you say J. D. Robb? ;) ).

I used to collect LuRay dinnerware. It's pastel-colored pottery that was made from 1938 - 1961, and it's really pretty. But there's nowhere in my house to display it anymore, so I'm selling it. Anyone else collect this stuff (and want to buy some)?

Books, I have loads of them. And recipes....I rarely cook from a recipe, but love to collect new onces, because you never know when you might need one.

I collected frogs when I was younger. Do not any more, but still have most of that collection.

The only thing I collect nowadays is Grandchildren ! :)

I still have my stamp collection from childhood, but that's about it.

In the past I have collected:-

antique cream jugs

thimbles

Smokemabelia....lighters, cigarette holders, pipes, tobacco tins, snuff boxes and cigarette boxes etc.

Blue china
I started to clear clutter after my Mother in law died. It took us 6 weeks to clear her home ....I don't want that to happen to my kids. It would only take them hours to sort through my posessions now :D . I enjoyed collecting over the years, but not now....I just cherish and enjoy a few special bits and bobs.

One bathroom has floor-to-ceiling masks/face images from nearly every country I've visited. It makes some people absolutely claustrophobic to go in there--trying to pee while surrounded by all the faces! :wah:

Among my favorites are a fetish I bought from a little fellow in Borneo--he PROMISED me it'll keep away ex-husbands! So far, it's working! :wah:

Wow Patsy, I would love to see your keychain collection! :) That's a brilliant idea to display them like that. I don't display most of my stuff, like the keychains are in a drawer or in my myriad extra purses but things like the Willow Tree angels and crystal balls, they live on the coffee table and on the mantle of the fireplace. I boxed up my ceramic shoe collection for now but I had it setting on the wall unit. My problem is I have a small house and too much stuff starts to look like clutter. :o

I forgot to mention I collect wheat pennies and foreign coins too.

You all have such neat stuff in your collections! :)

From an earlier thread:

I have a few small collections of different things... movie posters, old

bottles, glass insulators from telephone poles, buttons, things like that.

(Pretty big matchbook collection!)

But really I just like "old" stuff so I have maybe two or three things or

sometimes just even one. I have my original 1966 Twister game, the

purse my mom carried when she married my dad, my dad's Marine Corps

leggings from WWII (Pacific Theater), the front bumper, hubcaps, and

tailights off my parents' 56 Mercury, Bates Motel room key, Mason jars

with porcelain lined lead caps, huge old lightbulbs, costume jewelry,

okay I'll quit now.

Update:

Too many things to mention!! LOL, I realized I have so much around

here. Shelves and shelves of books. Cookbooks, old restaurant menus,

my grandmother's hats (there's a pic around FG somewhere!) just old

things, really, I love old things.

So far I've avoided the "yellow plague"... years of Nat'l Geo magazines!

I forgot I collect pennies - some other coins if & when I remember. The key chains look cool all hooked on one LG chain - you should try it.

I also collect Dr. Seuss books - I have some from the '50's, love them. I also collect Wizard of OZ - Red shoes - I collect Red

Valerie, I also collect buttons - I have the old Ball canning jars filled with buttons and some with old marbles. One might ask - where do you put all this crap - uniquely displayed. - my house is a treasure trove.

My husband collects Golf Bag Tags - I display them on a cafe curtain rod on our sports wall.

Tazz - I also collect Diamond - and I love to collect costume jewlery - my latest jewlery collection is Cross's - St. Christophers, I have @ 40 all on one large chain that I wear - love it.. Theres not much I don't collect - I love old stuff.

Your right - my family is not interested in much of the crap I collect - my nephew loves my husbands sports stuff - so its all his.

Its difficult to part with some of my stuff - I do alot of garage sales for the stuff that gets demoted - & duplication of stuff. Oh, I collect scarves - everything!!!!

I collect Beattles stuff - Today is 26 years John Lennon died. 26 years Imagine that.

You & I have the same problem, Patsy! What'll we do with our TREASURES? I keep intending to at least LABEL these things, including the country where I found them...but nobody's going to care.

Buttons in mason jars sound like fun....

1776. I specialize in and focus on one of the most important events in human historiy and freedom on Earth - the Ratification of the U.S. Constitution. That whole last quarter century from the War to our first National Mint. Follow the money. It has almost all the secrets.

I'm not prepared to reveal more. If you saw the movie National Treasure you'd understand.
