Halloween and horror...

Normally I hate horror films, mainly because quite honestly I just don't get scared at all, and the more unrealistic the characters the more I find it boring. I also know exactly when something dramatically insane is going to happen mostly from paying attention to the music in the film, not to mention the director obviously making what has evolved into a bluff game due to the predictability of the "surprise" effect that is vital in any horror film to make it just that, horrifying.

But recently with Halloween around the corner, I have remembered alot of films that I seen as a kid, and I wanted to watch them again,..just to see how "horrifying" they actually were.

So I happened to catch Friday the 13th(original) and I have to say,...it was one of the most dull horror films I have ever seen...It makes me wonder how they even managed to create..what?...11 of them?...Although as a kid, I remember the ones with "Jason" actually in them, and I did like those....I will have to give the sequels a shot, considering that the first Friday the 13th didn't have Jason in it.

Then I remembered one that I had seen as a kid, and decided to give it a shot...so I downloaded it and watched it...It was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre(original)...and I have to say...I never been so absolutely horrified in all my life(well from a television perspective)...My god I have never seen anything so grotesque in my life...The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the epitome of a horror film, and the actors in it were absolutely brilliant...Throughout the entire film they were so convincing that they actually made the whole experience seem real...Not once did I say to myself that "This is so fake, it's not even worth watching", as I normally do with horror films...I have yet to see a horror film as absolutely bone chilling as that one...I'll probably not watch it again for a while, because one it was so horribly vile I just don't need to see it again, but mainly because after watching a film once I hate watching them again because I know whats going to happen...I seen it as a kid, but I practically had forgotten the whole movie...Classic horror film.

If anyone wants to watch a horror film...just skip Jason, Nightmare on elm st., even Halloween(get played out at Halloween time)...

Watch The Texas Chainsaw Massacre...you'll be clawing anything within arms reach...

I remember watching Chainsaw moons ago. It was so gross. At the time I loved horror films but I've long since changed my ways. Friday the 13th got to be comical after about the 497th sequel :wah: and I remember in one of them, somebody got their head macheted off and it went sailing across the room, landing in a potted plant. Or maybe it was a potted ficus tree. Something like that. I cracked up when I saw that.

Supposedly, the original Chainsaw was modeled slightly after a real life psycho wackjob named Ed Gein: http://www.carpenoctem.tv/killers/gein.html

Yeah those can be comical...But The Texas Chainsaw Massacre the original wasn't really scary in a typical sort of way...it was much more completely just creepy and eerie...and it was more realistic(I don't mean that in a way other than in comparison to other horror killers that are purely monsters and devils -- with the exception of Micheal Myers in Halloween,..but even then, he never did die much) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was based on a real family(Not necessarily a true story, but not far from realistic -- if there is such a thing :wah: )

Texas Chainsaw Massacre was the worst movie - I think I kept my eyes closed through most of it - horrible, yet realistic

Snyder - your right this movie doesn't compare to any of those Jason shows, and I know I can't sit through the chainsaw movie again - horrible.

Great Horror movie for those into that.

Google has a special right now. Free to watch Nosferatu . It's the classic. For those with unusual tastes, the also are showing Plan 9 From Outer Space.

Though not in the typical horror genre of Jason or Freddy, a couple I really liked for the mess with your head factor were The Seventh Sign with Demi Moore and Stir of Echoes with Kevin Bacon.

the original Massacre, the original "The Hills Have Eyes" and the original "House on Haunted Hill" with Vincent Price. those would be my top three.

The movies that creep me out recently have been similar to SAW(not the second one!) and SE7EN. where i think to myself, some wack-doodle could actually do this. yep. those creep me out.

I liked SE7EN because, while it was gruesome and terrible, it wasn't gruesome just for the sake of being gorey(sp). ya know? it helped the story along. and if you see it edited and cut up on ragular TV, i feel you're really missing something.
