Now this is cool. It is time lapse photography of the space station passing over the moon.

Thanks for the link, Marie. It's a great photo.

A bit of clarification :

The photo is a composite of the ISS's sillouette against a nearly full moon, not actually a shadow cast on the moon's surface.

The ISS is in a low Earth orbit of only a few hundred kilometres. You can easily drive that far in a few hours, at the legal speed limit, and still stop for coffee.

The moon is about 400,000 kilometres distant. That's about 15 years worth of driving for the average North American motorist. :driving:

"Oh, Im bein followed by a moonshadow, moonshadow, moonshadow

Leapin and hoppin on a moonshadow, moonshadow, moonshadow

And if I ever lose my hands, lose my plough, lose my land,

Oh if I ever lose my hands, oh if.... I wont have to work no more.

And if I ever lose my eyes, if my colours all run dry,

Yes if I ever lose my eyes, oh if.... I wont have to cry no more.

And if I ever lose my legs, I wont moan, and I wont beg,

Yes if I ever lose my legs, oh if.... I wont have to walk no more.

And if I ever lose my mouth, all my teeth, north and south,

Yes if I ever lose my mouth, oh if.... I wont have to talk...

Did it take long to find me? I asked the faithful light.

Did it take long to find me? and are you gonna stay the night?"

(Just in case anyone else has been going nuts, trying to remember this DEATHLESS lyric!)

Here's a similar photo of the ISS and the space shuttle sillouetted against the sun :
