It seems I'm a bit behind the times, it's already known in FG. First I heard of it,

though. Must've been a sad sack, or a bad one.

I don't think that this kind of thing is only in the states, unfortunatly there are very disturbed people in all western countries, there was a similar horrible incident in Scotland in the 1990s when a deranged individual went into a infants school and killed a lot of very young children with a handgun. I would say that such things are pretty rare, thank god, but obviously questions about security would have to be asked. I suppose that because of incidents such as columbine and other mass killings there are questions in America about guns and the gun control debate, but ultimatley thats for Americans to debate amongst themselves. I also don't think this situation is quite the same as other recent incidents, but is more like the Dunblane incident in Scotland and is the terrible culmination of something that was going on in that persons head for a long time, and I'm not sure if gun control issues are really relevant here. Also, seeing as this particular incident occurred in an Amish area I'm not sure what they would wish to see done as they have very strong ethical beliefs about things like guns and physical force etc, which are pretty different from mainstream opinion. Its a really horrible story, I hope that the other injured children survive, how awful.

No one is safe anywhere. Thats the worst part. You can't even mind your own business and retreat from society - you'll still be at risk :(
