this should be the grand finale...mother begs for son's life. jackie peterson has been an unsympathetic player in this saga throughout. she has alienated most people who followed the case. but today she has to try to engender some sympathy from a clearly hostile jury...i am most interested in how she will present her case for scott...what mother would not plead for a child's life? but if she gets on stand and tells the jurors they were wrong it will be a huge mistake.

Today a 'biggie' Lady cop........I can't wait! Whatever Jackie does, I think, will just cement all the other testimony of "Scottie lovers" together. She Jackie, will be the "glue". Honestly, I do feel sorry for her. You so politically call her unsympathetic............you are alway's too nice! I can't tell her what to do or say or feel, you can't.......no one can. Whatever she say's will be scripted by Mark Geragos but the historonics will be Jackie's own! So be it.

Hope you don't have to work today. What a concept huh! You always are working

Keep warm............

OMG........I just had the CUTEST Deputy Sheriff come to my house......he's looking for an EX tenant of mine who's since gone back to Chicago........so he tell's me that's will make his job a lot easier. He also was working at the County jail here for a long time when David Westserfield was there! Said he talked to him every day.....

I'm pm you the rest!~ heeheeheehee

LADYCOP,

A LITTLE OF TODAYS EVENTS FROM A BLOG SITE..!! ;)

Get this over with..!! I can't take anymore..!! :-5

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 8, 2004

11:19 a.m. PT: Testimony ends for the day.

Jackie Peterson makes her final pitch to jurors, telling them if they sentence her son to death, "it will be like a whole family is wiped off the face of the earth." Sharon Rocha grimaces. Peterson goes on to say her son has been portrayed as "the devil," but "has never been that." Juror No. 12 wipes her eyes, but some panelists won't even look in the direction of the witness stand. At the defense table, Peterson dabs at tears. Prosecutors Dave Harris and Birgit Fladager confer briefly about whether to cross-examine the defendant's mother, but decide not to. She steps down and jurors file out. One male alternate panelist glances at Peterson, but the rest do not. They will hear from one more witness tomorrow and then hear closing arguments. ”Harriet Ryan

10:50 a.m.

Jackie shows the jury baby pictures of her son. "If you asked me about Scott, I would say he was a joy from the moment he was born," she says. As the first picture is placed on the projection screen, the foreman turns and looks at Sharon Rocha. The rest of the panel is attentive, but unemotional.”Harriet Ryan

10:38 a.m.: Jackie Peterson takes the stand.

Mark Geragos calls the defendant's mother, Jackie Peterson, to the stand. Jurors watch her slowly make her way into the witness box. In the front row, Sharon Rocha watches. Jackie Peterson says one of the most difficult days for her in the trial was the day Rocha testified about her horrible loss. "We all lost Laci, and I have empathy for her," she says.”Harriet Ryan

10:30 a.m.: Ed Caudillo testifies, followed by Brittney Peterson.

Ed Caudillo and Scott Peterson's teenage niece Brittney Peterson testify, but we learn that the star witness, Jackie Peterson, will be up next. ”Harriet Ryan

9:50 a.m.: Shelly Reiman testifies.

The next witness is Shelly Reiman, a friend of the Petersons from college. Reiman testifies about the birth of her own son, Conner, before Laci Peterson's disappearance. She says Peterson seemed "genuinely excited and thrilled" about the birth of his child. She breaks down as she asks jurors not to send Peterson to death row. "It's not going to bring back Laci. It's not going to bring back Conner. It's just going to add another tragedy to this horrible event," she says. For the second time in the penalty phase, prosecutor Dave Harris opts to cross-examine a witness. He asks her just two questions: "Did the Scott you knew ever talk to you about Amber Frey?" and "Did he ever tell you he was telling Amber he didn't want to have children?" The answer to both is no. ”Harriet Ryan

9:42 a.m.: Thomas Beardsley testifies.

The first witness is a former customer of Peterson, Thomas Beardsley. Beardsley testifies that as a fertilizer salesman, Peterson was honest and hardworking and went out of his way to help him. "Scott's a calm person. He's got plans, he knows what he wanted to do, and he executed it," he said. ”Harriet Ryan

9:24 a.m.

Judge Delucchi tells the jurors they will hear testimony from five witnesses today and perhaps one more tomorrow morning. He promises the panel that no matter what ” "even if it's five o'clock", they will be instructed in the law Thursday. The foreman nods as the judge reminds them they will be sequestered starting tomorrow night and should meet at the hotel with their luggage in the morning.”Harriet Ryan

9:21 a.m.

Scott Peterson enters court wearing a khaki suit. He doesn't give his parents the usual smile, perhaps because a court officer is blocking them from his view. A minute later, the jurors file into court.”Harriet Ryan

9:03 a.m.

Jackie Peterson enters the courtroom alone, wearing a black skirt and a gray jacket. Several people in the defense section rise and introduce themselves to her. She smiles and does not appear nervous.”Harriet Ryan

9:02 a.m.

Lee Peterson and his daughter, Susan Caudillo, arrive in court. ”Harriet Ryan

8:58 a.m.

Sharon and Brent Rocha take their places in the front row of the courtroom. No sign of Jackie Peterson ” the defense's most anticipated witness ” yet.”Harriet Ryan

8:30 a.m.

This morning's Public Lottery Report: 100 people vying for 27 tickets. Unofficially, I'd say half the contestants were network bookers. Vinnie Politan got excited from the get-go when he was handed ticket number 44 ” the number he wore as a New Jersey teenager back when he was captain of his high school basketball team, the West Orange Cowboys. Halfway through the lottery, a number was called and met with embarrassing cheers of "Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!" It turned out to be defense attorney and frequent Court TV guest Ivan Golde. A few numbers later, a lucky winner screams out "YES!" This time it's legal analyst Paula Canny. Are they this loud trying cases? The last number read? You guessed it ” 44. Another big win for Vinnie. ”Bryan Lavietes

Hard to say L C...........BUT.........since judge said that, and I heard that on CTV........then there's sure a chance they could come back this evening.......which is kinda weird, depending on the time of day...... but I was wondering how late the court can stay open. Do you know? I know that in New York......they have a traffic Court that's open all night!!!!!!!!! Do you love it. I went there with hubby one time, it was a riot. I think it we were there about 1:00 in the morning and the place was packed!

Carla.............I had my hip boots on all day yesterday. This poor woman.

You can't blame her........I'm a mama of five. I'd always stick up for all my kids and you love them all no matter what. She, Jackie just doesn't know how to lose and I understand that. If one of my children murdered his wife and child.........I think I'd just completely lose it. I wouldn't even be able to get up and testify.........I'd be in a permanent fetal position somewhere. :-5

I couldn't image how difficult it would be for a mom or dad to be in this position. How horrible. Not only did her son kill her daughter-in-law, but he also killed her grandchild. Now mix this with the maternal instinct she has with him.

Would make my head explode.

Does he feel? It's hard enough to believe someone can take another's life, and it's harder to believe rather than divorce he chose to take his wife's life. But the concept I just cannot even remotely grasp is how a feeling human being could take a child's life, especially their own child's. :( His actions, whether premeditated or not, have affected so many lives.

thursday evening, 6:45 eastern.--the decision on penalty is now in the hands of the jury, and verdict may come down this evening. IF the jury votes for death the judge can modify to life without parole. i am standing by to get the verdict.

Jurors begin deliberating possible death sentence for Scott Peterson

Scott Peterson faces the death penalty after a jury found him guilty of murdering his wife and unborn son.

By Harriet Ryan

Court TV

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. ” Jurors began deliberating Thursday whether Scott Peterson should be put to death for the murders of his pregnant wife and unborn child.

The six men and six women spent two hours weighing evidence before retiring for the night to the hotel where they will be sequestered until reaching a verdict. They are to resume deliberations at 9 a.m. Friday. :-5

The jurors started their work after listening to impassioned closing arguments in which a prosecutor described Peterson as "the worst of the worst" and deserving of the ultimate punishment and two defense attorneys urged jurors to show mercy and recommend a sentence of life in prison without parole.

Defense attorney Mark Geragos asked jurors for "mercy and compassion" in his closing arguments and said killing Peterson would not bring any solace to the Rocha family and would only continue the cycle of violence.

"How does the idea of sticking a needle in his arm, how is that going to help?" Geragos told jurors. "None of this is going to bring back Laci, bring back Conner."

Prosecutors, however, called him "an evil man" who deserves a death sentence for carrying out a "monstrous plan" to murder his pregnant wife.

Displaying graphic photos of the badly decomposed remains of Laci Peterson and her fetus on a large projection screen in front of the jury, prosecutor Dave Harris told the panel, "Leaving his wife's body to rot in the bottom of the ocean, leaving his son's body to be found as trash in debris ” that's not something that should be rewarded by sparing his life."

One female juror ” No. 7 ” turned her head away from the screen and began to cry. Other panelists looked from the gruesome images to the front row of the spectator's gallery where the victim's mother, Sharon Rocha, sat weeping.

Defense attorney Pat Harris urged them to reject the death penalty and recommend a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

"This is not a monster," the defense lawyer said. "I beg you to ... please spare his life."

The defense lawyer noted that 39 witnesses ” ranging from Peterson's golf instructor to his own mother ” vouched for his character during the penalty phase. He said the 32-year-old could contribute to society from behind bars by working with younger inmates in prison.

"There are people in jail who can use help, who don't have counselors," Harris said. "I believe that Scott Peterson has the ability to affect their lives."

The defense attorney spoke in a whisper and much of what he said during the half-hour argument was not audible in the gallery of the courtroom. At one point, he appeared near tears.

Prosecutor Harris began his 51-minute summation by reminding jurors that it was the second anniversary of Peterson's purchase of the fishing boat he used to dispose of his wife's body.

He brushed aside the testimony of those character witnesses, saying they knew nothing of his true nature.

"He's manipulative. He's a liar. These witnesses who came in, they are just more of his victims," he said.

Harris flashed a photo of the Petersons smiling happily in front of a Christmas tree and quoted from the testimony of defense witnesses who had praised their marriage.

"They were the perfect couple. They completed each other. They were both full of life and loving," he said. He then placed a photo of Peterson and his mistress over Laci Peterson's face. "Unfortunately, they didn't know the side of Scott Peterson you know."

He played jurors excerpts of phone calls in which Peterson deceived his mistress, friends and parents, and also showed them snippets of his "Good Morning America" interview.

Harris called Peterson "the great manipulator, the great fraud," and said he only cared about getting free of his marriage and fatherhood.

"Laci Peterson was an anchor around his neck ... so he put one around hers," he said.

He showed jurors family snapshots of Laci Peterson and her brother, half-sister and mother and asked them to think of the birthdays, holidays and graduations missed.

"All of those things ripped away by an evil man," Harris said.

After flashing through photos of the Rocha and her daughter, he stopped on a sonogram of the boy Laci Peterson planned to name Conner.

Gesturing to Sharon Rocha, who was slumped against her companion, Ron Grantski, the prosecutor said, "She'll never get to see Conner grow up."

The prosecutor implored the jury to reject defense suggestions that there is "lingering doubt" about Peterson's guilt. Several panelists nodded as he said many defense witnesses were trying to convince them that their guilty verdict was wrong.

"Don't feel guilty for doing the right thing," he said, adding, "Now it's time to do the right thing again."

Harris also told the jury they could not consider sympathy they might have for Peterson's parents, Lee and Jackie.

"You're heard over and over and over that if you execute him, it's going to kill Lee, it's going to kill Jackie," he said. He then walked to the defense table and pointed his right hand at Peterson. "The person responsible is right there."
