Do pets catch colds

Post by minks »

Egads, 2 weeks ago a family memeber had a nasty cold. A week later my dog started to sneeze all over the place, this week it's the cats turn? I don't mean little half sigh half sneezes, I mean blatty snotty nose good sneezes, not the kind substance I like on my keyboard when mister cat strolls by.

I just wonder can pets catch a cold?

BTW family member and dog are fine, just cat is left with a sneeze.

Pets do catch colds!

The cold is caused by a virus, and usually viruses are species specific (exceptions of course, HIV,Rabies,West Nile..) so you don't catch a cold from your dog or vice versa. And cats and dogs wouldn't pass colds between them either.

Sounds like ya'll just had an unlucky week or so.

Oh, dogs get the flu too ;)
