Test for Librarian Job

Post by Saffron »

Day before yesterday I took a City test for a p-t librarian job. As there is a new library history center going up in the city of Orange. I think I missed a couple of math questions. But there were some very weird questions like "pick out the word in each sentence which makes it not make sense". I've never seen that on a job test. And of course a lot of grammar, punctuation, spelling, filing, and common sense stuff. IF I had to take a typing test I'd pass with flying colors.

IF I passed the test, I'll be called back for an interview. And then the job won't actually begin until after the first of next year

It's a very common exercise on ESL tests, for example. It tests basic editing skills, since you might have to produce written documents.

Good luck on getting to the interview :)

Good luck, Saffron! Call me an old grump, but I'm glad to see English comprehension/literacy is a part of your job testing. Libraries are cool places...even in the computer age, they're huge resources. They were my haven as a child.

Me too. They set me off on the road to knowledge.

Good luck, Saffy. Hope you get the job.

Good luck. I used to want to be a librarian.

But I am curious now..can you give us an example of a sentence that contains a word that does not make sense??

There were long sentences with one word in it. I don't remember the exact sentences, but there was one with the word "Seldom" in the middle. And the seldom caused the meaning of the beginning of the sentence to not go with the second part of it.

It was really hard to find these words. But I went back and rechecked my answers.

:( :p

How do you think you did on the testing? And when will you find out?

Well I think I did good. But I don't know about a couple of math questions. It wasn't too hard.

I will hear back by September for an interview, if I passed the test. And then there will be 7 of us to go to work after the first of the year.

I like libraries, nice and peaceful. And all those books. :-4
