This is for Suresh really and it's probably in the wrong fortum. Today 20 years ago the Union Carbide plant in Bhopal India exploded leaking toxic fumes into the area.

It's still contaminated and there are constant birth defects even now, neither Union Cardide or the Indian government seems to have done a lot to clean up even twenty years on.

Suresh what is the local perspective

I would be very interested in an opinion as well. The anniversary of the disaster is all over the news in the UK. I can remember being profoundly shocked and saddened when news of the tragedy arrived.

And about time too!

The Bhopal disaster was one of the main drivers for several countries to set up the crime of Corporate Manslaughter - those guilty, at all levels within the company, should be punished severely.

Just a thought, but has anyone ever done any research on all the funky cancers, brain tunours and HIGH incidents of birth defects in the UK from the Chernobyl cloud? You know, the radioactive timebomb that lingered over the UK for AGES?

Studies are still being done but tend to concentrate on the local region. Greenpeace has done a Europe wide study but it does appear to be politically inspired.

I had not realised that there were still restrictions on several hundred farms in North Wales, Cumbria and South West Scotland as a direct result of the contamination :-
