Just a neat story...

Post by valerie »

I'm sure the poster wouldn't mind me passing it on:

As some of you already know, my DH is an Army Recruiter. Part of what they do is go around to local stores, shopping malls, etc. and meet people and talk to them, hand out cards, etc.

Anyway, he told me this cute story that happened to him yesterday at one of the local strip malls that has a couple of Arabic / Middle Eastern stores in it.

Him and two other recruiters (they usually go out in groups) are in the strip mall and the other two stop into a coffee place to get something to drink and DH is outside finishing a cigarette.

All of a sudden he hears a little voice next to him and sees a young girl wearing the full blue burqa, asking him, ""What's your name?"

"My name is Brian."

"Hi Brian," she said. "I'm Fatima."

"Where are your parents, Fatima?"

"They're over there." (*points*)

"I'm sure your parents wouldn't want you to talk to strangers."

"But you're not a stranger!" the girl replied in a tone indicating that this was very, very obvious. "You're an American soldier. And my parents sent me over here to tell you, "Thank you for liberating our country."

Wow what a neat story. We need to hear more of these as sometimes it seems that what our troops are doing over there just isn't wanted by the people of that country. To hear that we are appreciated even a little bit is uplifting.

Thanks for posting this Valerie. After all the doom/gloom crap the media reports bout Iraq, it's nice to know that Iraqi's do appreciate our going to bat for them.

By the way, if Mr. Valerie is Army and your a Marine fan does it get a little tense at home? :D

Great story Val and that is what it is all about, doesn't get any more profound than that. "Thank you for liberating our country." Think about it none of us in our life times can imagine ever having to say that.
