How old is the hard drive? If your hard drive is not detected in bios check your connection to the hard drive.I have found that the difference in humidly can somehow cause them to become loose.

This probably would not help with this particular problem, but it is an interesting and worthwhile program to run.

Hubby says 8,000 is a lot of tracks and if you continually scan through them then you are using a lot of power, so the chip will get very hot and may well have overheated or crashed and burned! Sorry!
However, he also said computers can be temperamental and changing the leads over might work.
He suggests swapping the lead between the hard drive and the mother board.
Or swap over the ID channels for the hard drive i.e., put 1 in 2 and 2 in 1
Your ID2 port might have gone (if ID1 has the working system) so swapping the leads over will show if the ID2 slot has blown
He says the hard drive might be okay but something on the motherboard might be gone. Have a look, do any of the chips look fried? Try moving the cables around or switching them over. Its all trial and error, apparently.
He also asks if you have had a recent power surge or has the pooter been knocked at all? And he suggests you buy a fan for the hard drive to keep it cool when scanning.
Don't know if any of this will help, but hopefully it's just a wire or cable thats gone and not the whole of your hard drive.
