Area disabled woman left in van for 5 1/2 hours!!!

I heard this on the radio this morn ing, and it really pi**ed me off.

A van driver for the disabled in Newark, NY picked up a mentally and physically challenged woman at home one morning, strapped her chair into the van., and then proceeded back to the company's garage...fogetting she was in the van....parked and left. The woman was strapped in the van for 5 1/2 hours till another employee of the van company came by and saw her there.

The driver, when confronted, simply said "oops, I forgot to drop her off". :-5 Unfortunatly I could not find a print article to link to here.

Now, how can someone just forget??? It takes a special kind of stupid to do something like that.

The man was immediatly fired from his job, and is facing charges of "endangering the welfare of an incompetant person". My other question goes to, why didn't her school, or workshop, or where ever she was going NOTICE she was not there and call her home? Granted she is very mentally challenged, but it would have saved her alot of stress and anxiety. :-5

That's really sad. I'm guilty of forgetting stuff in the car. Cell phone, purse, once I even forgot i had put some leftovers from my mothernlaw's house in the back of my car for a week. But I don't understand how someone could forget a person in a vehicle.

Oh quite right that is a horrible story, how anyone can simply just forget about her is a disgrace, and as you say why the people who worked at where ever she was going did nothing either is also not good enough. I can imagine her friends and relatives being outraged when they heard about this and rightly so!!!

I would like to know how this idiot was hired to do such a job demanding of responsibility in the first place. You cannot honestly say that it is understandable to pick up another human being, handicapped or not, and simply forget that they were in there. This man shouldnt be aloud to work at McDonalds. I have to say, this is one case that I wouldnt mind paying taxes for this persons welfare benefit.....it would be worth him not working anywhere else to be such a liability to him and his coworkers. I want to see his drug test results.......unacceptable.
