The Rant Page
Sometimes a rant can build up and needs an outlet. These rants can come out in ways that are regretable and sometimes hurtful. I thought it would be a good thing, but may be wrong, to have a spot to go when you feel that rant bubbling up. The rule is: you can't name names.
This way you can rant without causing harm and everyone reading knows it is just that - a rant.
Obviously I am feeling the need to vent so here it is.
I find it annoying when:
-people show up at a battle of wits unarmed and make the first attack.
-people insist that if both sides of a debate lack proof or are based on opinion their side wins.
-people discount the value or content of a post because of a spelling mistak (I did that on purpose)
That is all for now.

Responsibility and Choices
I really get ticked at those that do not take responsibility for the choices they have made, and push the blame to someone else. Ban fast food advertising because some people will become obese ? Blame the cigarette manufacturers for habit forming nicotine (never did buy into that argument)? Put labels on step ladders, informing the stepee that it could be dangerous ? DUH!!! Criminal behavior? Hey---let's blame society and our enviorment and the fact that momma was selling herself and smokin crack and I had no other choices. Three Strikes and Your Out Ain't Fair? People should only be incarcerated for life after 21 convictions and two for stealing pizza doesn't count. On and on it goes.
I have made some really stupid choices in my lifetime, and some good ones. I will take full responsibility for both.

I have this year understood ranting, i have not been on forums too long, it is a behavior that does happen. A forum within my town was so viscious, no matter what i contributed was an arguement, i have since left, but was asked to return, as i posted many options. I am happy i have not participated as the people involved are not liked by anyone. I am blessed now, as many issues about me within town policies have passed, i kinda know right from wrong, at least i think i do.

It's probably a good thing that this page didn't go too far but I discovered something today and thought I would share it here.
I had a rant. A really good one!!!!
In fact it was so good I dug it out of the trash can later the same day I threw it out. It was a note to my boyfriend who was conveniently unavailable to hear it at the time I felt it so I wrote it down for posterity. Damn I felt good when I was done. In fact, I am so proud of that rant I am going to write them all down from now on and save them in a scrapbook so when I feel like I have been stepped on one too many times I can look up a rant and remember how self righteous I am.
Just thought I'd share that with you. (I hope he doesn't find it cause I was really mean and cutting...but if he does, someone had to say it)

Koan, you do have it with-in you to "speak out." I am just glad it wasn't me you were beating on. By the way, its really not good to get that "MAD" at anyone! What could we find as a Rant Plant?

It's not? Hmmmm.
Growing up in my house it was good to be happy, it was acceptable to be sad if it lasted for less than an hour, it was tolerated to be grumpy for about 15 minutes but only in the morning or right before bed. Anger set off an alarm and everyone would rush to put the emotion out. I had a disability for my early adult life in which I could not get angry for more than a few minutes. I didn't know how. This strange emotion would bubble up and, for lack of understanding what was happening to me, I would cry. Times when I thought I had really "lost it" on someone they would often say "Well, thanks for being so calm about it" when I had finished reaming them out. The idea that it is not good to get mad has, in fact, allowed people to trample all over me for the larger part of my life so far. I do agree that it is not good to voice anger in the heat of the moment as very hurtful things may be said and there is no taking them back...that is why I decided to write them down. Then I can reread them and decide if I was justified in saying what I did or if I was just being cruel. As someone who had to learn to get mad I think it is actually quite important and classify it as a skill.

I think it is healthy to recognize that you are angry - what a person says or does to you which invites that tide of emotion - often unchecked.
There are various ways to dispense the anger in healthy release....but never to pack it around like a second head....feeling righteous because we didn't "blow".... that is an invitation to more problems.
And Koan your remark that you had to learn to get angry demonstrates the restrictions we often put on our families, especially the young, when people are made so uncomfortable by anger displayed. The alternative in "pretending" you are ok with an insult, or being hurt by a careless mistake can go on for ages without being resolved, and why should anyone have to do that! You have learned a trick or two about self-preservation!
The best reaction is to remove yourself from the situation by "taking ten" and deciding the most advantageous method of getting rid of the anger.

Have to disagree. Anger because of an insult or a rude remark must be taken care of...
being happy is when you release the anger outward and not turn it inward which will set off a learned reaction into being depressed (which is anger turned inward)....or feelings of inadequacy or being an outsider.
Unless we master our set of emotions, we will never be comfortable in our lives, constantly being on the lookout for real or perceived prods from others.
Happy is always healthy, it is also LUCKY.

This is what "The RAnt PaGe" is for, you are using this thread correctly! You cannot be obsessed with me and analyze my words, there is much in the forum to do, other than focus on a person? At my age i don't need some-one to explain my feelings to me, who doesn't know who i am? I am concerned of your input, & plan to avoid any un-needed comments. I have given you "attention". RanT On.

Are you addressing me? If so I don't understand. I was only responding to your words that a person should be happy....when that is impossible all the time.
If a person feels anger and they don't recognize it and deal with it.... they will carry it
until one day they will be able to contain it no longer.
If I have offended you I apologize. I'll stay away from your posts. If you think I am stalking you, please report me right away. Nobody should ever be stalked.

Interesting progression.
I think rants are unavoidable and if recognized as such, theraputic in a way. It is better to announce a rant than to take the anger out in insidious and subtle ways on the unsuspecting.
Sorry, just have to say that one more time...insidious. What a great word.

I dont often rant. I suppose sometimes people use that. I was told by some people that took a bizare photograph of my aura that not saying when I am angry or hurt is the reason why I get hundreds of sore throats. But on the other hand Iwonder how ranting affects our karma...even if no-one knows who you are talking about you are still putting out a very negative emotion into the world...does it come back 3 fold? I suppose if its not hurtful to anyone its not that bad and a good rant is obviously an intrigue otherwise i wouldnt be looking in this thread lol
Blessed be.

In PLant terms, as far as toxicity goes, it could turn into Goldenchain or PukeWeed, these are real Plants. There is Pokeweed & GagRoot Too? Plants you just stay clear of, they can make you very sick. I would prefer Fun Plants like Buttercup, Daiseys, etc... :-6

We are the ranters my friends. And we will go on ranting until the very end.
Rants at work are deemed unethical due to not being constructive.
The 10 comandments now that was a rant!!!
Of course my employer would probably find a way to deam it unethical.

You have mentioned problems at work because of honesty in one place and now because of your employer's decisions ....
What's going on at work?
Can't hurt to level here...we don't know you or the employer or anything....can you give a general outline of what happened????
Honesty given in the workplace can turn around and smack a person upside the head....I've never been able to figure it out, except maybe we are all playing a role at work too and honesty or even careful phrasing of words can backfire and maybe tear down the ego fortress?
I think forums are an ideal place to rant, especially if they don't concern any conflict with the members on the forum, but outsiders.... gives us an opportunity to work out and get feedback on our situation.

Koan - you write:
It is better to announce a rant than to take the anger out in insidious and subtle ways on the unsuspecting.
Exactly - sometimes we take our anger out indirectly on people not connected with the original moment of hurt ... and often on someone else who said something totally unrelated but "broke the camel's back"....
Passive aggressive whining at the offender doesn't do it either.... there are other ways to dump the problem unless it is a situation we are going to be faced with continuously (like at work).... then we need to clear it up as best we can....for ourselves.
Insidious is an excellent word....so impressive and complete .... full of images....

Wed. Child; are you a Psychologist? I can't understand your point at all? How come everyhting has anger to you? There is no balance to your approach on Ranting...which means to me carrying on about nothing? Babble-Chat with no meaning (time wasting) jibber?
There is no content to your message, that explains what you are saying?
Ranting, carrying on about nonsense? (modern) message board term? Further define the word for me?
