Favourite Track Of All Time?

Post by King Terry »

So, what Track or Single really makes you tingle. For me it is an unusual one considering that it comes from The Beatles, but is not a Lennon & McCartney song, but one by the ever so under rated George Harrison. For me "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" has it all .... the Beatles AND the world's best guitarist Eric Clapton. Sadly this liaison cost George his gorgeous wife Patti to Clapton, but we all share the benefit. RIP George.

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping

While my guitar gently weeps

I look at the floor and I see it need sweeping

Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know why nobody told you

how to unfold you love

I don't know how someone controlled you

they bought and sold you

I look at the world and I notice it's turning

While my guitar gently weeps

With every mistake we must surely be learning

Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know how you were diverted

you were perverted too

I don't know how you were inverted

no one alerted you

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping

While my guitar gently weeps

I look at you all

Still my guitar gently weeps

Oh, oh, oh

oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

oh oh, oh oh, oh oh

Yeah yeah yeah yeah

yeah yeah yeah yeah

>>> the world's best guitarist Eric Clapton...

I understand it's your favorite, but best???

I wonder how fans of Django Reinhardt, Charley Christian, Andre Segovia, Joe Pass, Michael Hedges, John Fahey, et. al., might feel about that?

I always find it odd when people apply superlatives to art.

An artists work can touch us emotionally and spiritually, move us deeply, but subjectively.

Absolutes in art. It's not a batting average.

You are correct, I should have qualified my answer to "within his genre", which of course is merely my opinion and not fact. My Dad was a huge Django fan, but I was never able to appreciate his talent, nor any of those that you list. I am not sure it is possible to really compare guitarists from such different genres. I suppose technically, professional guitarists, which I am not, might be able to make that decision.

I agree with that, but I also have to agree that that does not make him necessarily the best in all genres. Other genres do not attract the same popularity, so I do respect the alobar's opinion as I am not qualified to argue it. I have seen him a few times in concert, including once with Derek and the Dominoes and he was awesome. Wish I had been able to see the original Cream concerts. The reunion ones were so ridiculously priced that I could never justify spending that sort of money. Having said that they sold out in an hour. I am thinking about buying the newly released Blind Faith DVD from 1969, although a review I read said that they all looked rather bored, so I am holding back.

Oooh. Damn. I think you may have me by a smidge there, LC. I just happen to be listening to "Smooth" right now, and loving it. That's a tough tie to break. SRV is a God.

Oh, come on, come on, come on, come on!

Didn't I make you feel like you were the only man ã?? yeah!

An' didn't I give you nearly everything that a woman possibly can ?

Honey, you know I did!

And each time I tell myself that I, well I think I've had enough,

But I'm gonna show you, baby, that a woman can be tough.

I want you to come on, come on, come on, come on and take it,

Take it!

Take another little piece of my heart now, baby!

Oh, oh, break it!

Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Oh, oh, have a!

Have another little piece of my heart now, baby,

You know you got it if it makes you feel good,

Oh, yes indeed.

You're out on the streets looking good,

And baby deep down in your heart I guess you know that it ain't right,

Never, never, never, never, never, never hear me when I cry at night,

Babe, and I cry all the time!

But each time I tell myself that I, well I can't stand the pain,

But when you hold me in your arms, I'll sing it once again.

I'll say come on, come on, come on, come on and take it!

Take it!

Take another little piece of my heart now, baby.

Oh, oh, break it!

Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah,

Oh, oh, have a!

Have another little piece of my heart now, baby,

You know you got it, child, if it makes you feel good.

I need you to come on, come on, come on, come on and take it,

Take it!

Take another little piece of my heart now, baby!

Oh, oh, break it!

Break another little bit of my heart, now darling, yeah, c'mon now.

Oh, oh, have a

Have another little piece of my heart now, baby.

You know you got it ã?? whoahhhhh!!

Take it!

Take it! Take another little piece of my heart now, baby,

Oh, oh, break it!

Break another little bit of my heart, now darling, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,

Oh, oh, have a

Have another little piece of my heart now, baby, hey,

You know you got it, child, if it makes you feel good.

I was about 9 when Buddy died. I was hugely into him and Elvis at the time. First records ever bought for me included "Peggy Sue" by Buddy, "Oh Boy" by The Crickets, "Loving You" by Elvis. "Poor Little fool" by Ricky Nelson and "Wandering Eyes" by Charlie Gracie:cool:

Honorable mentions MUST go to Lennon's Imagine, Wilson's God Only Knows, EJ's Tiny Dancer, Mathis/Garner's Misty, Clapton's Bell Bottom Blues, and Monk's 'Round Midnight. For me, it's Supper's Ready by Genesis. Hands down. Can't think of anything I'd rather listen to, any time of day or night, no matter what mood I'm in. Period. I DO like many of the other entries that have been listed, though.

As far as guitarists go (I'm a singer, so I don't pretend to know the logistics), yes, Stevie Ray...yes, Clapton...yes, Santana...yes, Cooder...yes, Jimi. Now I'll throw a few more in: Stanley Jordan, Steve Hackett, Alex Lifeson, Albert Collins, Jimmy Page, Al Dimeola, Steve Vai, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, and Tom Scholz. Some of them maybe not in the top ten, but damn good, nonetheless.

My favorites are the ones that get me movin & gyrating, and there are many, but Santana's OYE COMO VA & Stevie Wonder's SUPERSTITION are couple. Oh, and how about Joe Cocker's UNCHAIN MY HEART.
