jesus christ...i just went to the store, and when returning some rice-burning bike blew by me at what had to be 160 mph!!! i was so shocked and stunned i didn't know whether to get on my radio, my phone, or try to chase him. as it was, i could never catch him at that speed, but i am sick to think he is splattered all over the pavement somewhere down the road. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE???

last time we had one of these idiots, he was on A1A, a very populated beach road. we had to send up our helicopter, Air 1, to follow him. it was too dangerous to give chase on the ground. well, when he finally stopped, his brains were all over the road. EMTs needed a spatula to clean him up.

That's why we call them crotch rocket idiots "organ donors." If there's anything left to donate. I say, one more lethal weapon off the roads. Serves the dumb-ass right for going so fast. No excuse, I don't care how experienced you think you are, the tiniest, most miniscule mistake could be deadly.

I talk about going fast, and I admit, I have had my bike over what would be considered safe speeds, but it is not a common practice. Safety is the name of the game as a rule.

And even less than that. You'd be amazed the things that can cause a bike to go squirrely. A rock, even a tiny one, placed just the wrong way in your path. Hitting the paint that divides the lanes and feeling that difference and panicking. It takes almost nothing to throw a rider off. All the experience in the world can't prepare you for everything, ever. One glance in the wrong direction, and you can miss a hazzard. Speeds like you're talking about there's no possible way to see them all, and they are everywhere.

you know i've dumped bikes just sitting there doing nothing at a stop sign. and i've driven cars at 125 mph, but i had lights and sirens. it was still scary as hell. mainly because people don't move over.

Oh yeah. You can dump a bike at a full stop! I've seen some of the most experienced riders in the clubs do that!

Wanna hear something funny, LC? When I have my bike up over the....er....legal speed limit, I think of you and say to myself, "If LC could see me now, she'd kick my ASS up and down 8 mile!" And I slow down.

I've lost races because of you in my brain yelling at me to slow down, dammit. :yh_bigsmi

Just so you know, I've decided that even if the helmet law does get repealed here, I'm still going to wear mine. The only exception would be in club funeral processions. And then we're police escorted and doing 25 mph.

Pinky wrote: It`s law over here that helmets must be worn...even if it wasn`t, I reckon most UK bikers would still wear them. Most of us carry on wearing full leathers through the summer as well (although our summers are not as good as yours!).

Yesterday I met up with some of the local riders at a well known meeting place, and they were horrified that I`d come out in jeans instead of leathers! (I was boiling!)

I know some guys that seem to think you`re not a `proper biker` unless you ride everywhere at over 100. Personally, I think they`re mental. Although like BR I have been way over the speed limit on occaision, it`s only ever been on really clear roads where no-one else was around, and only for a short time.
Being a "proper biker" has absolutely nothing to do with the way you ride, or what you ride for that matter. It's a lifestyle, something you are born to do, not something that you create.

I guess I'm gonna have to start watching how I refer to crotchrocket riders with you around, huh, Pinky? :)

Pinky wrote: Not at all...I agree with you on those `crotch rocket` riders that act like idiots, so don`t worry!
I guess that makes you the exception then: a crotch rocket biker who is sensible. A rare creature indeed!!

That`s why I don`t affiliate...most people seem to have too much of a wanker attitude
Ever thought of joining an R/C? I know the Southern Cruisers are world-wide, and they are known for their safety practices. Nothing like an M/C, they are just a social club that claims no territory, has zero commitment levels and they ride a LOT. They also do lots of great charity work and runs and such.

The LR's ride hard, tight and aggresive, but not at excess speeds. Too much can go wrong when you're riding 8 inches from the guy in front of you. We also ride parade style as opposed to staggered.

I'd start with googling "Southern Cruisers R/C, UK" That should be a good start for you. If not, I can put you in touch with the regional director over here, and he can point you in the right direction.
