DG's Baby Update

Post by DesignerGal »

Guess what guys? I am being tested for PCOS on Tuesday. This will be a big help in determining what the problem is! I have all of the outward symptoms, so Im hoping this will be the answer and then we can start down an avenue we actually need to be on.

I'll keep everyone posted, I guess.

My cousin (who just found out she was pregnant) was diagnosed with this. They put her on meds that are meant for diabetics. Insulin is a primary cause of PCOS inhibiting fertility, so this should help me get pregnant AND lose some of this weight I have gained. It helped her lose weight AND get pregnant!

Wish me luck!! Hopefully I will be pregnant by the end of the year!

Best of luck DG! I'm rooting for ya!

But just wanted to say a couple of things...

Make sure your doctors and diabetic nurses KNOW you want to get pregnant!

If they put you on diabetic meds you HAVE to have injected insulin NOT tablets!!!!!

Injected insulin goes around the placenta and doesn't affect the baby, but tablets break down and the body actually forces the meds across the umbillical cord so the baby gets a very high dose of meds which can lead to miscarriage or severe problems for the baby.

Also, get your doctor to prescribe folic acid tablets, as they like you to take them for 6 months prior to conception, especially if you have diabetic tendencies.

Make sure you get a good diabetic nurse. If you're not happy, ask for someone else!

I don't want to scare you and I hope all goes well for you, but misinformation is a bad thing in this case and you need to know what you're dealing with.

Sorry to be even more of a pain! :(

But insulin actually makes you put on weight, not lose it!

The insulin takes the excess sugar (glucose) from your blood...and turns it into fat cells! It's crap, I know! That's why you will have to talk to a nutritionist also and watch your diet ...for ever!

You also can't eat soft cheeses and pates because of the risk of salmonella. Likewise, the only eggs you can eat MUST be hard-boiled. Be wary of eating seafoods because of the high mercury levels found in seafoods today and DON'T eat live yoghurt, because the bacteria in it can also harm the foetus!

Sorry hunny!

You might also have to test your blood glucose levels.

You can buy testing kits at Asda for £5, which is the cheapest you can buy - and they're fine, they're Accu-Chek, which is the brand the hospitals use.

Final point, a good point at last, if you are diabetic or on diabetic medicine, you will be entitled to free prescriptions for everything you ever need, for the rest of your life!

Thanks Rapunzel, but this is the situation:

IM not a diabetic. I am going in to see why I cant get pregnant. IM seeing a fertility specialist. Insufficient or too much insulin causes your ovaries not to function properly which in turn causes no ovulation. THe prescription (usually prescribed to diabetics) will regulate my insulin. IN addition, they will prescribe Clomid (fertility drugs, which I have taken already) to be taken so I will start to ovulate again. ALL the doctors know Im doing this JUST to get pregnant, but thanks for the info. ANd I have been on folic acid (pre natal drugs) tablets for almost 2 years now. But again, thanks for the information.

I'll let you guys know as soon as I do.

Im not taking insulin, its a prescription usually given to diabetics for some other reason. IM not sure I can explain it. And they put me on The South Beach Diet to help.

It has nothing to do with diabetes at all. Its just a drug that has many uses and diabetes symptoms is one of them. I will get you more info later!

 you don't have to be so rude. People who adopt are wonderful people who have lots of love in their hearts.

Wow, I know people who have adopted and they have never treated their children like they weren't thier own. Just because the baby isn't thier flesh and blood doesn't mean someone can't love that baby like their own.

I'm sorry you had such a bad expierence, but where would you be today if you hadn't been adopted?

You need serious counseling and FAST. The poison inside you is destroying

you and causing serious hurt to other people.

No. Obviously you're giving birth, pretending to play mummy. You seem to link fertility with being a good mother. Believe me, anyone with as much poison and hate in her as you have, can't possibly keep it from affecting those poor innocent babes so unlucky as to have emerged from your womb.

Hey Guys! Clancy, thanks for the PM. I appreciate all the support, but this woman (if you can even call her that) is a total piece of trash. I could care less what she says one way or the other. This thread is about my baby news and I have some more!!!

Hubbie is NOT shooting blanks. We got the test results yesterday! My sonogram is scheduled for March. They will be checking for PCOS and to see if I have ovulated for that cycle yet if PCOS isnt detected. So that is it for now, I will keep you updated...as usual, I have been keeping my temerpature and records of other things I wont go in to detail about. I dont want to make all the men sick!

As for Sheryl_B, I am not worried about her drug induced meannness. I hope someone gets their hands on her kids before she damages them. Doesnt she know that kids who grow up in a home with a drug abuser either get hooked as well or grow up hating her guts? Sad situation there. I am not sure how social services works over there but mommies who are on binges dont get to keep their kids.

GOOD LUCK ok

as for switching doctors that is ok too. Most people with a problem that can't be solved by the medical profession switch doctors. I read for example on average a person diagnosed with IBS sees 3 doctors before they are correctly diagnosed. So do what ya have to hun.

If you arent tired of hearing about this yet read on:

Hubbie and I went to see the specialist yesterday! FINALLY! She was so great! Someone to finally listen!

She started me on 2 medications (Metformin and Clomid) to get me ovulating. I have to call her when my next cycle starts and she will have me come in on a certain day after that and do an ultrasound to see if I am about to ovulate. Then she will do an HSG test (which checks for blockage by insterting dye into your plumbing). If everything is fine we'll continue with the medication until I'm pregnant. It took my cousin 4 months to get pregnant on these drugs but she only took the metformin not the clomid because she didnt want to chance multiples. So, cross your fingers. If this doesnt work we will move on to ANOTHER semen analysis then artificial insemination. After that we are looking at starting IVF. Hopefully the pills will work because I also found out yesterday our insurance covers NOTHING!!!

Have a great weekend everyone!
