the female who drowned her 5 children walked out of jail today. she gets a new trial in march, and the judge set a $200,000 bond. murderers don't usually get any bond! well her lawyer called in some favors, and she didn't even have to put up the customary 10% to the bondsman. regardless of reports, he did not put the money up, only the paperwork fee. so she was taken to a state mental institution that looks like a country club/summer camp on a lake, where it's coed and they have dances every week, art classes, etc. .........Andrea Yates released from jail

This is good to know. It makes me realize the penalty shouldnt be too great for me longer being able to pay my bills. I was so worried. The scales of justice seem a little screwed up.

It's hard to believe this happened 5 years ago. How time does fly -- when one is not locked up.

Texas (AP) -- A woman accused of drowning three of her children rejected prosecutors' plea offer of a 35-year prison sentence and is expected to face retrial in MarchProsecutor Joe Owmby said that the state would leave the offer on the table until 10 days before Yates' trial is set to begin March 10 for the deaths of three of the five children.
Yates has pleaded innocent by reason of insanity, as she did at her first trial.
She was convicted on two counts of capital murder in that 2002 trial, but the convictions were overturned because a forensic psychiatrist gave false testimony.
State District Judge Belinda Hill planned to rule Monday on Parnham's request to halt the trial because of claims that Yates cannot be tried twice for the same crime.
During her 2002 trial, psychiatrists testified Yates suffered from schizophrenia and postpartum depression, but expert witnesses disagreed over the severity of her illness and whether it prevented her from knowing that drowning her children was wrong.

This is disgusting. What is happening with the justice system? She gets a new trial and sorry, but a plea deal of only 35 years? She deserves life. Also, that baby raper only got 10 years? THe man who kidnapped and murdered Tyreek Davis here in Fredericksburg gets a 10 year plea deal, then gets to tell the authorities where the body is? WTF is going on? If anyone in my family was murdered I would find the bastrds and pop full of caps!
Did I tell you guys I watched Four Brothers last night?

this bastard should be in the can too...oh gag me :yh_sick lets hope he doesn't have any more kids. ...AP) -- Rusty Yates, whose former wife drowned their five children in a bathtub in 2001, said Tuesday that he is getting remarried.Yates said his former wife, Andrea, is aware of the wedding, which is planned for Saturday -- two days before Andrea Yates' scheduled retrial on capital murder charges.
"Andrea has been aware of it for a couple of months, and she wishes me the best, just as I wish her the best," Rusty Yates told The Associated Press in an e-mail.
He identified his fiancee as Laura Arnold and said the two met at church.
Rusty and Andrea Yates, both 41, married in 1993 and divorced in March 2005.
Andrea Yates' attorney, George Parnham, said Tuesday that though the new marriage would be a moment of sadness to Andrea, "People have to get on with their lives."
Yates continues to stand by his ex-wife, who has pleaded innocent by reason of insanity. A jury rejected that defense in 2002, and Andrea Yates was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Her conviction was overturned because a forensic psychiatrist gave false testimony when he said an episode of television's "Law & Order" broadcast shortly before the slayings portrayed a woman with postpartum depression drowning her children; no such episode was ever shown.
An appeals court also is considering new arguments and could decide this week to delay the trial.
