Where is LC? I have so many questions...

Lafave strikes a plea deal in FL and avoids jail time for having sex with a 14 year old. If this were a man, he would be in prison!!!

i watch it every night....and i watched lafave's hearing today, the judge was clearly contemptuous of her. ...and of course couey's lawyer would try to strike a deal, that's his job, to keep the scumwad off death row. DA will never go for it.

I cant believe this trial. Its a joke. What was that I heard about the judge/jury being blindfolded?

Now they are talking about a civil case, well if the mother of the 14 yr old victim doesnt want him to testify in the criminal trial, how would they gain anything in a civil trial. I understand she wants to protect her child but it seems like there would be no trial if he didnt testify in the civil suit.

I also remember the husband, Owen, saying she new what she was doing and totally went against her (I agree with him). WOuld he be called as a witness in the civil trial? Did he have any statements submitted for the DA in the criminal trial?

i suspect the mother might have a change of heart in a civil case, it's all about the $$$$$$$$$...plus they are usually not public. what you heard is that lady justice is blindfolded, the fact lefave is a pretty young woman should make no difference. she had also entered an insanity plea before the deal. her husband was clueless throughout, has nothing to add to the facts.

It would be my worst nightmare if my son/daughter were "molested". I dont have any children yet, but as I have admitted in another thread my step sister was molested and I just cant bring myself to forgive people who do something like this. I just read a book in where the main character is a DA and her son gets molested, and she shows up in court and shoots the guy. I cant say that I wouldnt have the same thoughts!

Like my girl Nancy says, "its abhorrent behavior!"

Saw your thread earlier about the woman and the 15 yr old. I read the Atlanta paper everyday and have been following that story. I am from ATL. I still think at 15 your are a CHILD! I am 28 and I look back at the things I thought/felt/did at 19 and just shake my head and think "how naive!"

Ex: Teacher Still Doesn't Know Not To Have Sex With Child

NEW YORK -- Debra LaFave's former husband said if her crimes had been committed by a man he "would have definitely gotten some jail time."

The former Florida teacher Tuesday took a plea deal to dodge a prison sentence over allegations she had sex with a 14-year-old boy. She pleaded guilty to lewd and lascivious battery and received three years house arrest, followed by seven years of probation.

Owen LaFave said that deal sends the message that sex with minors isn't so bad. And, he said she still doesn't realize "how wrong it really is" to have sex with a child.

The boy told investigators he and LaFave had sex in a classroom, in her home near Tampa and once in a vehicle. The LaFaves were newlyweds at the time.

The ex-husband said it was the "most intense pain" he's ever experienced.

Debra LaFave won't have to wear a monitoring bracelet while on house arrest. But prosecutors say the 25-year-old is subject to random checks from a community control officer who must approve all of her movements. She will be allowed to leave the house only for work, to go out to shop for essentials and for other necessary trips approved by the officer.

The judge said LaFave will have to register as a sex offender, will forever lose her teaching certificate and can't have any contact with children, including the victim.

She also must complete an outpatient sex offender treatment program within four years and continue getting psychiatric treatment. She also must pay court costs and restitution for all the victim's psychiatric and physical care.

Meanwhile, the mother of the middle school boy who had sexual liaisons with LaFave said the media attention has taken its toll on the family.

The mother's name is being withheld to protect her son's identity. But she said the family wants to see it all end.

The victim's mother said the boy is "well-adjusted" and shows no signs of having been traumatized. The teacher still faces similar charges in Marion County, Fla.
