Bloody, brutal, Lots of sex and nudity..... I did quite enjoy it as I love all things historical....found the use of modern language a bit 'odd' ....but yes....another BBC triumph.

I knew there was going to be a fair bit of the "other" when I saw it being advertised, after all doing Rome without the sex is a bit like doing "The Weakest Link" without Ann Robinson. My sister is actually doing the classics in college, and she loved it, though not too much I hope. I wonder is that bit about Octavian and the Eagle Stadard based on fact?

I didn't think much of the football last night, though the Arsenal were pretty good, but a dodgy defence though. Henry got a peach, jeasus he's a great player. (I'm a long suffering Villa fan, we're going down, you heard it here first). You would have been much better off watching Rome though, it was on at 9.00, on BBC2.

hehehe well I was busy laughing at Man U last nite (apologies to all Man U fans, but you were awful!!) Oh being a Liverpool fan I would wish u the best of luck in your next match, but I can't seeing as how we are playing u.

Anyway back to the point of the thread, and I guessed it was on around 9pm, most of the BBC's excellent work tends to be on at that time, just kinda miffed that I missed it oh well, at least I got a laugh last night!! :D

Now you're taking out the big guns, it was my favorite program when I was young (well 15), which will tell you a lot about what kind of kid I was. But yeah, It still sets the standard, Derrick Jacobi, brilliant. Well the new one is of its age, but its better than I expected actually, much better.

Its a joint anglo/american production, and British actors do all the main parts, which is interesting, cause the Brits always get cast in imperial parts whether its the Roman Empire, the whatever-it-was-called (evil?) Empire that was in Star Wars (thats honest advertising anyway), often the third Reich or, (perhaps a little unsurprisingly), the British Empire itself, it must be the gravitas.

On the same vein, when they did that "Alexander" film, someone (for whatever reason) decided that all these ancient greeks and persians should have mock Irish accents, what a farce. So you have Val Kilmer in a cockamammy Irish accent saying "I'm gonna bate the bejazus out of dem feicking parthians"..........indeed. We do not make very convincing imperialists im afraid.
