My mother-in-law and I .........

Post by SOJOURNER »

My mother-in-law and I were very much alike. So much so that when my husband asked me to marry him, his father took him aside and privately pointed out to him that I was very much like his mother, Eleanor, from whom he was divorced. Thus cautioned, we still were married.

Eleanor was, and I am, a person who is always running late. It was joked that Eleanor would be late to her own funeral, and she was. Her cremated remains arrived here in Ohio, from New Mexico, with her daughter on the second night of two days of calling hours. She went out the way she lived, on her own terms.

Today, however, I did something that has my husband calling all his sisters to share the news that I have out done Eleanor.

It is the first day the clocks have been set back so church began one hour later than usual.

I arrived at 20 minutes after the hour, during the sermon, and my husband had to contain hinself when I arrived and nudged him to move over so I could sit down with him. Never, never had his mother arrivied late on the day one had an extra hour to get there............ In essense, it could be said I was an hour and 20 minutes late. He was a bit spastic. I reached a new pinnacle of amazement to him (to say nothing of the rest of the parrish who is well aware of my struggle to live by the clock.

Late tho I was, I did arrive, and it has brought back many fond and loving memories of a very special lady.

Anyone else here have traits similiar to others in your family?

My mother-in-law and I .........

My family has an awful trait of lonerism. I'm divorced now and a loner, for the most part. My Great Uncle Joe never married and died a bachelor. My Aunt Ginny was alone for years before she met her now husband. My Aunt Jane lost her husband and won't ever get remarried -- her kids don't want her to, so she won't. My Cousin Tommy was a bachelor for years and spent most of his time in the basement rec-room. My cousin Karen's oldest son (19) hides out in his bedroom to read a lot. Lonerism can be an handed down trait, and this is all on my father's side of the family!
