Just what is a crumpet? I cant think of anything that goes better with butter on it than a home made biscuit right out of the oven. Mmmmmmmm!!!!
Just had some barbecued ribs with great sauce on them. Very good.

The English crumpet
The crumpet is circular in shape (usually; long and square varieties also exist) and has a distinctive flat top covered in small holes. It has a spongy texture and a fairly bland flavour.
Crumpets are served hot, usually with butter. Other popular accompaniments include jam, Marmite, honey, or cheese. Typically, crumpets are bought in packets and toasted.
A pikelet is similar to a crumpet, but much thinner and sometimes irregularly shaped. (But the meaning of pikelet varies: in some regions of Britain it traditionally refers to a crumpet, muffin or other teacake. In Australia and New Zealand it refers to a Scotch pancake.)
A buttered crumpet.
Delia Smith lists the following ingredients as being sufficient for 16 crumpets:
12 fl oz milk
1 tbsp yeast
1 tsp castor sugar
1 tsp salt
8oz plain flourIt is worth noting that the recipe contains no egg, and that many variations contain no sugar.
The crumpet should not be confused with the sweeter English muffin.

Thank you. But now I have another question. I am afraid I dont know castor sugar. . We have cane sugar and beet sugar, but castor brings up terrible images of castor oil which was a laxative. I know people who plant castor beans to chase away moles and gophers. In fact they make ricin from castor beans.

Ah, I see I think. We have what we call "powdered sugar" and yes, fine sugar. I think powdered has a bit of something in it to keep it from lumping. They tell me you can make powdered from regular sugar out into a blender. Never tried it.
