Well globally it shows the hard work and dedication of Vancouver to provide a safe environment for everybody. I guess they can either be bitter or proud of it. Again we have been there here in Calgary and many of us are still proud of how well we managed so many aspects of the 88 winter olympics.

Well, we better get some snow, real quick. There are contingency plans for the slopes, but it would be nice to see us get some really good snow up there. Don't need to hear skiers complaining about the condition of the runs, especially if they are not up to snuff with all the the other money that is being spent.

I have heard you are suffering from a lack of snow...... i also heard it would have to be "trucked" in? Oh goodness welcome to western Canada eh.

Just another small example of how much unnecessary spending is being done. At least there are a couple politicians that have enough morality to turn freebies down.

VANCOUVER (CBC) - Two Vancouver city councillors say it was a mistake for the city to spend $377,000 on Olympic event tickets at a time when workers are being laid off, programs cut and taxes raised due to a budget deficit.

Councillor David Cadman says that although he could get free tickets to the Games, he would not accept any.

"To take money for attending events we don't have to be officially at, but which is simply a perk of position, I don't think is appropriate," Cadman told CBC News Tuesday.

Councillor Ellen Woodsworth was taking the same position on the free ticket issue, Cadman said.

Select city officials both politicians and staff will have access to tickets for events such as the opening and closing ceremonies, curling events and the highly coveted men's gold medal hockey game, a city spokesperson confirmed to CBC News Tuesday.

Opening ceremonies tickets in the seats made available to the city cost about $3,700 each, Cadman said.

The city of Vancouver announced in December an increase in residential taxes of 2.26 per cent and blamed the rise on budget shortfalls.

The city also cut 158 jobs and opted not to fund either the Bloedel Conservatory in Queen Elizabeth Park or the children's farmyard in Stanley Park.

"I basically asked myself if I was offered those tickets was I prepared to spend that money myself, and when the answer was no, then I said then I can't possibly ask the taxpayer," said Cadman.

I can't wait for the opening ceromonies I love the Olympics Winter, Summer they are spectular in every sense of the word.

I have traveled alot in Canada you should be so proud of your beautiful Country it is breathe taking no matter where you go. :-6

they are trucking snow into the olympic site because mother nature (true to Canadian form) is not providing it naturally. Ah the things we do as humans.

Yes K truck snow in to the olympics we have these westerly winds come in off the ocean they bring rain over British Columbia and it's usuallyl fairly warm (not as warm as say the Mediteranian mind you ) and the rain melts the snow... Now as the winds head east over the mountains they bring along warmer air, once that air hits my part of alberta the winds melt our snow. I have seen our temps rise almost 20C during these wind incidents. The wind is called a Chinook, or snow eater. It is some kind of native name.

In 88 we had those winds a blowing and a ski jumper was performing a jump and the wind caught him and blew him off track right into a cameraman filming the event.

Our weather here is crazy unpredictible.

The torch is scheduled to come through Port Coquitlam tomorrow a.m., just when I am catching the bus to Vancouver. I was told by my bus driver this a.m. that he does not really know how it is going to impact, and if he can go the regular route, so suggested I should take an earlier one.

I did notice yesterday on the way home from work that my bus was crowded when I got on, and had to stand all the way to my stop in Port Coquitlam, so the road closures are helping curb traffic, but they have not added any more buses onto our particular route - :-5.

Im looking forward to the opening ceremonies on Friday. I dont expect theyll be as dramatic or polished as Chinas ceremonies. Some moose lumbering around dressed in Maple Leaf stuff, a guy wearing plaid flannel crushing a beer can with his forehead. Cant wait.

I want to know if the First People will be part of the ceremony, that is what I would like to see. And the parade as the athletes enter the stadium.

I suspect yes Chonsi. I love the parade of athletes. So emotion filled.

Nomad, you have no idea how beautiful it really is here. It is pretty spectacular on a clear sunny day, when you can see the mountains and the ocean all at the same time.

I must say that now that it is here (tomorrow) it is getting pretty exciting, and truly hope that we don't let you all down with your expectations of Vancouver and Canadian People. Let The Games Begin!!! Go Canada!

There is talk of Gretzky, his father, and the mother of Terry Fox, we don't have much else beyond that. It would be very cool to see an Inuit member of the hockey team take the honors... We shall have to wait and see.

Here in Calgary when we had our celebration of the Torch coming through it was fantastic to see the grown up woman today who lit the torch in 88. That was cool. Miss Robyn Perry.

She was such a pretty young girl. Someone like that would be nice to light the torch again.
